Huawei cabinet and ECI modem - does that matter?

Does it matter that I have an ECI modem but am connected to a Huawei cabinet? If I wanted to unlock the modem to see my stats (how do I that that btw - I'm a bit green in such matters?) which one do I need to be looking at? My stats are pretty poor compared to a neighbours so wanted to investiage. Thanks in advance.

Some find it works better if you match modem and cabinet, some find the opposite.

If unlocking you'll want to pick up an HG612 off eBay, so much easier to unlock and there are programs to record the stat's

Does not matter - it can be better or worse. I have an ECI modem working with a Huawei cabinet and my speeds are around 2 Mbps faster.

Is it actually legal to buy these off eBay? Don't they remain the property of Openreach? I would love to buy a kosher *brand new* one.

the HG will probably still sync higher on same dslam config but the error rate should plummet with a ECI modem on a ECI dslam.

If the HG would take you over the DLM threshold which then means possinble banding/interleaving then ECI could well also mean improved speeds.

Some people who got DLM'd got back on fast path by switching to an ECI modem.

I am on a ECI dslam and using HG from day to day since the higher error rate isnt enough to take me above the DLM threshold and isnt anything noticeable on my connection either, the HG has far superior monitoring to the ECI device which is why I am using it.

Indeed. I've often wondered if some of the things Openreach does are really legal

Could well be property of Openreach - haven't been able to find that quickly in various terms & conditions.
