Much improved info but alas diasppointment for me - Snainton exchange not actually enabling Snainton (EO lines, you see) - but Ebberston becomes superfast due to being on a remote cabinet! Folks with knowledge of the area will understand the geography
Main village is depicted in orange which suggests superfast will occur but with no confirmed date. Seems that September date was in fact a quarterly placeholder for most of us...
Grrrr

A new cabinet has now popped up and I have it under good authority (from superfastnorthyorkshire that this is to cater for the Exchange Only 'problem'. I was expecting it to be smack bang to the local exchange but it is actually a distance away...go figure! Not sure how that works?

So, excusing my ignorance, what physically happens, when I finally order, to my line between exchange and new cabinet? Thanks.

Just for reference, here's a google map. A is the new cabinet, B is the exchange...
Snainton

Not a lot really, there is just a jumper to change so that you can get the VDSL2 injected onto your telephone line.
So a short visit to the green street cabinet and if its an engineer based install, they will also visit your home to fit the faceplate and drop the modem in.

Lets you estimate your speed based on distance from the cabinet.

So they will have already run a fibre link between exchange and cabinet? (It has power)
|
|
|
They might, they might not.
Cabinet can be powered even if it does not have the fibre. Different teams do different bits of the job. A case of checking the checker https://www.btwholesale.com/includes/adsl/main.html once a week.
My cab has been stood two months, and have seen the work to clear ducts, put in ducting around village, but none are taking orders just yet.

The bit I don't get is that normally (non EO situation), my line would go directly to a street cab then fibre to exchange? But in this case, my line will currently sail past this cabinet on its way to the exchange so I'm just confused as to how it works, kind of in reverse?
