New FTTC Install Problem

Hi Guys,

Looking for some wisdom - Just got FTTC installed but already have problems. The engineer visited this morning and fitted the faceplate etc, registered speed is 66mbit/18mbit on his device. (Estimated was 62.7/20mbit)

Openreach modem is connected and I can browse the internet, however when trying to download/perform speed tests the average speed is about 6mbit download. Upload varies between 10-18mbit.

There's something weird going on with the line even before the FTTC switch over - before the old ADSL Max service went off at 10am(ish), the old BQM graph showed this:

Any ideas what caused that?

Which ISP are you using?

Are you testing using a wired connection or Wi-Fi?

What operating system?

The speedtest is not the classic RWIN problem shape, but it might be related.

As for the BQM no real idea, perhaps ISP was switching your connection around and messed something up. What is the BQM like now?

Tried speedtest on 2 computers and I had the same result. Both windows 7 connected via Ethernet. Tried bypassing the router to no avail. ISP was migrated from BT Business Broadband ADSL Max to UK-Wholesale (who is a Daisy reseller) FTTC service.

BQM now:

I also tried BT Wholesale Speedtester... Result was similar to the tbb speedtest. It then tested it using the speedtest@speedtest_domain and the result was 38 down and 0.01 up?!! IP profile was 74.2 or something like that.

I should add that we also have a ADSL connection with the same ISP which works fine.

Is the speed test on the ADSL connection flat? eg

or wandering around, but closer to expected speeds.

Looking more like a congestion issue today.

Line appears to be getting more stable. Still find that speed is bursting regularly when downloading a linux distro as according to my router (which provides realtime updates to interface usage).
