I was looking at a potential new address and the bt dsl check says that WBC FTTC is available, with a downstream line rate of up to 6.7.
Isn't that kind of terrible for fibre? Could it be a mistake in the data? Or are these low numbers quite common?
Thanks

The lowest they will sell is 2 Mbps and it all depends on how far the property is from the street cabinet it is connected to.

In this case the suggestion is well over 1.5km from the cabinet, which is in theory less than 2% of UK lines.

Surprising to hear the cabinet must be so far away, since it is just on the outskirts of Cardiff. But thank you for the information

If you use this checker with your phone number it should tell you your cabinet number. Then you can go and find it .

OP says it's a "potential new address" so could be that doesn't have the phone number.
Could also be using postcode checker which may not be accurate. Difficulty with moving to new places - really need to speak to existing residents to see if they have a connection to check how good it is or if they will provide their phone number to allow more accurate BT database check.

You can use the address checker, it's just as accurate as the number checker.

Most of these areas have virginmedia which is worth a good check

When I was looking to move recently, I provided the Estate Agent with the link and asked them to enter the phone number and email me the results.
They did, 1mb (!), no thanks ...

I looked around inside and spotted the cable equipment from NTL, and the Virgin Media checker confirms. So thats that sorted Maybe thats why BT haven't bothered to address the terrible fibre speeds, not worth spending money on it when virgin can already do it better?

Yep lots of that area have sub 2Mbps speeds on ADSL and terrible fibre speeds. Luckily it's all mainly been virginmedia'd so you can get 100Mbps not an issue. That's the way forward.
