I had my FTTC installed the other day and I'm happy with most of it but the one issue is that the wall-mounted VDSL modem has an annoyingly short cable. Dunno why they make them so short. It can just about plug in to the nearest 4-gang extension, but I could really do with its being 1 or 2 metres longer. Can you buy longer power cables for the "ECI ON316150" modem anywhere?

I had a VDSL fttc install today.
To cut a long story short, in 2001 I had my first ADSL connection with a black BT box 256 up/512 down.
Over the years, using various modems/routers the original cable worked.
It still does now - the BT engineer (always remember to give them a cup of tea!) said we will use that cable.
So, just get a longer rj45.

The question is about the power cable, although that too is a misnomer in my view, I'll post something if I have time and nobody beats me to it.

My ECI modemcame with a power lead about 3 metres long and that is all nicely tucked away in trunking.
If that is not long enough you really should look at where you devices are located.

Mine's about 1.5 metres so apparently they've halved the length of it.

Sorry, misread.
What you need is a 2 yard power cable.

I presume you're talking about the low voltage lead that goes from the power supply to the modem, rather than a mains power cable. If you really can't bring the mains closer to the power adapter, you'll have to get another power supply; try Googling the voltage and power rating for it (voltage needs to be the same, power rating need to be the same or higher) and see what you can find. You'll probably need something with a multi-plug adapter at the modem end as there are several different types of plug and socket, and make sure you get the polarity (positive/negative) right as well.

Good fibre speed, if so means your ADSL problem was exchange side of the cabinet?

You'll need to check the size is correct, but if it isn't no doubt the correct one is available somewhere.
Try taking the lead with you to Maplin or similar.
Maplin page.
Amazon - get both sizes and bin one?

As Bob says, you can buy extension leads, or, as Kevin says, you can replace the power adapter with another one. You have to be a little bit careful, as extending the low voltage lead can increase the resistance, leading to voltage drop sufficient to cause malfunctions. However, you're talking about a modest extension that should cause no problems.

Well, here's hoping - no issues yet after 24 hours.

Ah yes, never thought to check the DC chord extension option, good thinking and no doubt cheaper.

Yes, also forgot, I was running the ping quality thing last night - that does look good:

Please can you take the discussion of your FTTC somewhere else? It rather distracts from this thread on a totally different subject .

Sorry, I think it was me who hijacked the thread when I enquired about Lethe's vdsl performance compared to his previous ADSL issues, which was indeed off-topic.

Ah. So you did. Mind you, his entry to the thread was up the creek in the first place .
I've changed my reply to him.
