Fancied posting a rant on Christmas Day.
An ECI cabinet appeared on the end of my street around May/June, so I instantly got onto the BT website to see when Infinity is supposed to be available for me. It originally said it would be available between August 2013 and September 2013.
I patiently waited it out until the end of September expecting to be able to order, so I gave BT a call only to find out that it wasn't yet available and had been delayed. They told me it wouldn't be available until either October 2013 or November 2013.
Again, I waited and had another look on BT's website at the end of November to see the dates had been changed to between November 2013 and December 2013.
Here we are now on Christmas Day, near the end of December, so I thought i'd have another look on the BT checker to see if it is available yet by chance, before the end of December. No, it's now been delayed again and says between December 2013 and March 2014.
I wonder what is causing all of these delays, I've seen Openreach vans driving around every now and again, and I have seen someone at the cabinet just recently. It's very rare though. I was originally looking forward to signing up for a FTTC package, but it's taken so long now i'm no longer interested.
Also I find BT's website terrifyingly vague, its as if they just install fibre when they can be bothered. A 3 month timeframe is incredible. The lack of information about delays too...

Have you tried the checker at
http://www.superfast-openreach.co.uk/where-and-when/
That often gives a reason if a cabinet is in delay by showing an additional pin on the response map.
Alternatively try emailing

You might get a sensible answer from [email protected]
The typical response time seems to be about three weeks, but in cases like this they are often very straight with the facts. A polite enquiry with those slippage details rather than a rant is probably best .
You seem to think Infinity is all there is on FTTC? Any ISP can supply FTTC, just like ADSLx. Infinity is merely the BT Retail offering.

Thanks, I have tried that checker and it just says:
"Exchange Name: LEABROOKS
Status: Coming Soon
Forecast date: December 2013
Follow us on Twitter for updates"
That suggests that it isn't even up to date with the BT Wholesale and Retail checkers.

I will give them an email and see what I can get from them, thank you.
Im also aware that other ISPs have access to Openreach's network to serve VDSL. I'm never sure what I should refer to it as, there is so much false advertising around this new network such as "fibre broadband". The fibre only goes to the cabinet and is injected into the copper lines, I think it's wrong to call it fibre broadband, but it seems to have stuck and the ASA don't care about it too much.
Anyway, I've referred to it as Infinity as i'd be using BT's services if they were available to me, sorry about that.

you have a few more months to wait yet
Dear Sir
Thank you for your further enquiry about fibre broadband, the deployment of cabinet EM/LEABR 17 is in delay due to several serious blockages in the ductwork between the exchange and the fibre cabinet.
We are working on clearing these but this has extended the intended go live date to early February 14.
If you have any further questions, please ensure you have read the FAQ's on our website, http://www.openreachfibrebroadband.co.uk/faq/ . If your question is answered within the FAQ section, we will not respond to your e-mail.

Ah right, i'm on cabinet 16, the blockages must be further back towards Leabrooks then, or they are just waiting to finish cab 17 before they activate all of the other ones.
Cheers for that update, ill update when/if I receive a reply to my email.

Oh, thats interesting, I wrongly assumed cab 17 would be near mine as i'm on 16, it's definitely not the case. Cab 16 is down Birchwood Lane outside where The New Inn used to be. Thats a good mile or so away from cab 17.

thanks for the info.
i got excited when end of Sept came around then disappointed when it went back to end of DEC, the reason i found this thread was i need an update on whether the end of DEC was going to happen or not. It looks like not although the open zone pdf still says end of DEC.

I got a reply from the NGA Enquiries
Dear Sir
Thank you for your enquiry about fibre broadband as mentioned you are connected to Leabrooks exchange cabinet 16.
We have experienced problems with our network (duct blockages) and will be soon providing fibre cables if all things from now go to plan it should be enabled at the end of February 2014.
If you have any further questions, please ensure you have read the FAQ's on our website, http://www.openreachfibrebroadband.co.uk/faq/. If your question is answered within the FAQ section, we will not respond to your e-mail.

Pretty much the same story, lets see if they can actually get it ready for the end of February. The BT checker still says the end of March, so they are giving themselves leeway.

leabrooks is now being set to live. I have just spoken to BT engineer at my cab and he said this today for my cab. and should be able to order later in week
|

Keep trying the wholesale line checker. You don't have to wait until the exchange shows live before you can order.

Wholesale checker still shows 31st of March for me, so I doubt I'll be able to order yet.

Yep same here.
I have seen Openreach driving around recently though, and there was a van next to the cabinet near my house a few days back. I could see the guy writing on paper, didn't see anything else go off.

The BT Wholesale checker has updated for me today, it's now been delayed another 3 months until the 30th of June.

It's not far off a whole year since the cabinet appeared on the end of my street, this has to be one of the longest installs?

That's the tubing which will eventually take the fibre.

Mine is still reporting 30th of June, and as above, the black and yellow cable could actually be tubing that the fibre will be blown into.
That said, if they are just doing that on Greenhill Lane (where the exchange is), that could mean there actually isn't any fibre around here at all yet. Hopefully it also means they have fixed whatever blockage that was mentioned.

Heres an odd one then. I live in swanwick in a location I'm pretty sure is never going to get fibre..
However my old address also in swanwick (both of which use the leabrooks exchange).... and well this is the result.
http://postimg.org/image/af7o63oj3/
According to the openreach where and when and their twitter feed none of this should be possible as leabrooks isnt even accepting orders.. I'm beginning to think they don't know their ar$ from their elbow and all these dates are just made up of the top of their head to be honest!
|
|
|
|
Also in reply to the Cable - I've seen vans laying it in and around leabrooks/crays hill area over the last two months so I'd imagine they have some installed in some places.
|
|
|
|
That's cab 7, but don't know where it is
|
|
|
|
The openreach site has been slow to update for a while, if not always. The wholesale checker is the most up to date way to check. There are a number of cabs completed on Leabrooks now.

That's just around corner from me. But I'm saying cab 17 which is just around the corner from that but saying not available

Oh cool, I wonder if some places in Swanwick area can actually get it already then?
I didn't think they activated any cabs until all of them are connected up, might be mistaken.
|
|
|
Well according to the results I posted - it's available to my old house which was on the broadway estate in swanwick?
I was under the impression, like you, that the exchange and all cabs that were on the list to be upgraded (mine isn't ) all would be done before anything went live.
So not sure what this all means?!
|
|
|
The exchange will go live regardless of how many cabs are ready, all it needs is one cabinet to ready and the exchange can be classed as live. We still have some cabs only just going live two years after the first ones.
|
|
|
Plenty of exchanges that have 100 cabinets connected to them where a dozen or more cabinets have not been enabled yet.

I'm going to ring up and get bartering right away!

Thursday the 10th between 13:00 and 18:00 according to the lady on the phone.
I've been told I should be getting 79 - 80 down and 19 - 20 up many many times over the phone, so I have taken screenshots of the estimates online should they be changed and used as an excuse for poor service.
EDIT: Also for anyone interested, my bartering didn't get anywhere. I will be paying the full £26 pound a month and losing my unlimited anytime call package which was part of my previous plan for £16 a month with unlimited broadband. That really sucks.
BT don't seem to care much about existing customers either, for some reason new customers get 3 months for £20 and a £60 Sainsburys voucher, I get sod all.

If only I wasn't contractually obliged to stay. I wouldn't mind moving to an ISP like Zen which offer static IPs, but I'm too impatient, I want decent speed and I want it now.

That will also be the reason they wouldn't give you any discount, you couldn't leave and thus had no bargaining power.

I'm in swanwick, nearest cabinet I can see is 21 at the end of hayes lane. But this is still an old style cabinet. If i do the wholesale checker on my address (Line is with Sky) it doesn't tell me what cabinet I'm connected to and does not have an ETA on FTTC.
I'm assuming that either means the cab isn't set to be done until BDUK gets around here in 2015/2016 or Sky did a weird install and did me straight to exchange?!

Probably start work on 21 in a couple of months or so.

Right, so mine has been installed a couple of days now.
I've been having so many issues with the HH5, it's crashed about 3 times so I can't even access the web interface. I wanted to port forward FTP and ran into some stupid bug that stops me from port forwarding at all now.
My speed is fluctuating quite a lot too, one minute i'm getting around 75meg down, then do another speed test and its 50meg. My pings range from 13 - 30, they are also all over the place.
Because there are no real stats on the HH5, i'm not really sure what to do, do I ring up BT and moan, or do I just wait and get myself a decent modem and router?

Speeds are about the same as mine, awesome!
As for the router stats, they are exactly the same as mine, and everyone else I know as well. I've been asking around and everyones router connection info seems to be exactly the same.
I've ordered myself a HG612 modem so I can see some real stats soon!

Callumpy did you have filters or a faceplate before fibre, i am only asking as i had a v1 bt filtered socket before, had it since the green frog bt modems when it was 1mb broadband, anyways i still have it the engineer just left it, i have seen on this forum the sockets people are getting just wondered why not me, i didnt think fibre run off old sockets

I had a filter beforehand, so the engineer put a faceplate filter on for me.
As far as I'm aware, it's just a filter inside the faceplate, so any should work.

Callumpy
just a update on my fibre, i setup my port forwarding the day i got in installed i used the advance firewall settings and made my own port numbers and forwards, i also set all my devices as to use the same ip each time not static but there is a list in advanced/home network/dhcp table then click on each device and set its ip, the router rebooted once since the 14th april to install new firmware, i had the decorators in for 2 days and the router was unpluged about 3 times and the connection speed has stayed the same. i know reading on the forum about bad installs from Quinn engineers but my connection looks fine. i have seen the engineers adding other customers to the cab over the last 2 weeks but it has not changed my speed at all

Strange query for you all, I'm currently in swanwick off the leabrooks exchange - if I do the wholesale checker and it doesn't list a cabinet - is it likely that I am not connected to a cab properly? I've seen some cases where people have been connected direct to exchange or something like that?
If I pop a house a bit further up my road it does list that it is connected to a cabinet....
Also if I am connected that way - I'm assuming there is no way you can phone providers and ask to be reconnected via a cabinet and even more unlikely you can pick one nearby that has been fibre enabled?

I'm not too sure about that, i'm going to doubt you are connected directly to the exchange if you are in Swanwick as the exchange is in Leabrooks on Greenhill Lane.

Hmm, idmanager - you may have landed on something there. I pay Sky for line rental and broadband so I'm guessing that this is why i don't appear on anything then!?

Sky has long-standing customers who took WLR (Openreach Wholesale Line Rental) before Sky started insisting (several years ago) that new customers took their LLU line rental. It was even possible in those days to take Sky WLR rental without Sky broadband. In fact many O2 LLU users did so.
O2 and Be customers who did not have O2/Be line rental, but some other WLR service, transferred in automatically by Sky are allowed to stay on non-Sky line rental. Those who migrated earlier because of an enticing offer were in general required also to move to Sky LLU rental. I believe those on O2/Be WLR lines who were transferred automatically were moved to Sky LLU lines.
So there are several ways a Sky line rental number can show on the BT Wholesale line checker, which only handles WLR ones, but most Sky numbers will not.
My broadband basic info/help site - www.robertos.me.uk | Domains,site and mail hosting - Tsohost.
Connection - Plusnet UnLim Fibre (FTTC). Sync ~ 58.7/14.6Mbps @ 600m. - BQM

Hi All, Just started reading through this thread. As a customer of both BE & O2, the fibre couldn't come soon enough (infact Sky have called to say that BE was wound up yesterday and service would be ended today, as we had a Static IP that Sky cannot support apparently). Fibre has gone in Today on Swanwick Road at Cab 7, currently around 56MB/17MB. But am eagerly awaiting our install on Cab 2 for Sleetmoor Lane. Any news on this? Also with reference to previous post, I am unable to use the Phone Number checker for my home number (Sky) but it works fine with my Mothers long standing Sky line number in Swanwick. So this is definitely correct.
Thanks.
Adam

Hi Adam,
Cab 2 has a go live date set for 30th June according to the BT Wholesale checker but no info given by BT about the delay. They appear to be working on enabling Cab 9 at the moment according to Roadworks.org which is in the vicinity, so looks like there is some activity in the area.
