Billion 7800n on Fibre

Hi all hope you have all had a excellent christmas day with family and friends ,sorry to be a bother but I have one query only which is and I hope I have posted this in the right forum ,right here goes as the post title suggests I have a Bipac Billion 7800n which I find brilliant on my BT adsl enabled line I am now contemplating going down the self-install fibre route early in the new year can I use the Billion as a"one box solution "if so what do I need to do to enable me to connect to a fibre enabled line.

Billion wont be releasing an all in one solution for BT infinity until some time next year.
You can use your 7800n via its ewan but you will still need a modem to go with it.

It's a modem you need to go with it, not a router, and the modem is provided with the FTTC installation at present.

Yes sorry for that I meant a modem to go with the Billion ,anyway thanks for your replies I now know what I need to do .

The Billion 7800 isn't really fast enough to handle 80/40 fibre data.

Billion have said it is but if you look at the support forum it is really pushing it.

The billion has really been used for its ability to get good speeds on long lines with ADSL - this isn't relevant for FTTC. It will only be serving as a router, better devices are available and ISP supplied routers are reasonable.

look on plusnet forums (broadband & routers) I have posted up something to do with my 7800n and throughput of the wan

I am on 80/20

I have a 7800N on 80/20 FTTC (with Plusnet) and have no problems with speed. Download is steady at just over 72000 and upload at 18000.

I found the same when I used a 7800N on my 80/20 connection.

However, download speed could be impacted if it was simultaneously handling the transfer of large amounts of data around the LAN, the processor was simply running out of grunt.

It was never a problem, just something to be kept in mind.
