...although remember I'm talking about Openreach cabs. I don't know if they are the same in the IOM.

BT Sport works if you configure 'Enable VPN + DHCP Connection' to 'No' under the WAN option.

Apparently an engineer visit is required so they can fit a dedicated face plate. However I already fitted my own adsl faceplate to improve my connection which it did, will the VDSL plate be any different?

ADSL and VDSL faceplates perform similar functions but they are different.

The intention of both is to block the DSL frequencies from going onto the voice circuit and there is another filter in the modem which stops voice frequencies reaching the input stage. The faceplate filter should present a high impedance to everything in the DSL band.

However, the original ADSL filters were only designed and tested to the limits of ADSL which is just over 2MHz. VDSL started using frequencies up to 8MHz and most filters would probably cope. As VDSL moved up to higher frequencies, 12, 17 and 30 MHz then the performance of the original ADSL filters cannot be guaranteed and quite often they perform very badly at the higher frequencies either introducing phase anomalies or a low impedance which significantly attenuates the signal.

If you have a long line, an ADSL filter may be OK but if you are looking at maximum data rates/throughput then a decent VDSL filter is essential.

I have a hg612 3b and have applied unlocked firmware but need some help in setting it up to test it as I am not too sure how to set it up. I have brought it to work where we have a vdsl line connected to a DGND3700, I have changed the wan setup to use the ethernet port on the dgn but I do not seem to get a connection. The dsl light on the hg612 flashes and then lights up solid green which I presume is good. Is there anything special I need to do on the HG612?

The existing VDSL settings on the router are multiplexing VC based VPI/VCI 0/38 transfer mode PTM? I have entered the 0/38.

(HG612) On the ATM section I have EoA selected which I presume is PPPoE, VCMUX, service type no idea what this is but is set to UBR without PCR

PTM Defaults.

WAN are at the default, the broadband username and password is entered on the dgn router.

Also presumably it does both vdsl and vdsl2?

The device is synced at 34mbps down 1.5mbps up.

That's confusing.

Is the service at work FTTC, using an Openreach modem? If not, what is it and what is the normal setup? What normally connects to the phone socket?

Yes it is fibre to cab VDSL service.

At work there is no modem only the all in one device Netgear DGND3700 which has a modem built in for ADSL/VDSL. Normally the DSL port is connected directly to the phone socket.

The DGND3700 also has an ethernet wan port and can set to use either its dsl wan or ethernet wan. I have tried testing the hg612 bt setting the dgnd3700 to use it ethernet port and then connecting the HG612 to that port in the traditional modem + router only setup.
