But, but, but - if Fibre annoys you, why does it bother you that you haven't got it?

Good point, but that is why it annoys me.

If you have a cooperative person in the house behind yours, you could get a line installed and feed from there. A 100m Ethernet connection through the gardens should do the trick .

So lack of fibre annoys you, and quite a few others to be honest. Have you checked with your local council to see if you are covered by the BDUK project (or indeed checked with BT to see if you are in their plans just not yet done)?

Thing is i am already getting 20Mb with standard ADSL so it isn't that my internet is slow which is why i want it, it is just the fact i cant have it and for a extra couple of quid i could be getting 80Mb.

That gets at me too! The price of ADSL and VDSL aren't very different, but yet the services are very different. It's not fair at all.

I know a few people who get good speeds on their ADSL and when asked about fibre say they have no interest as they would be paying more for it and yet not doing anything more with it.
My contract is coming to it's end in the next 4 months, I get 10 Mb/s which for me is fine, but I know full well I can get fibre and phone cheaper than what I am paying, the problem for me they are with companies I don't really want anything to do with , like Talk Talk. So I am going to stay as I am.

But on those speeds, it would suggest that your exchange is right by your house.
Is your line supported direct to the exchange? I was under the impression that all those lines that are connected directly to the exchange would not get FTTC? I could be wrong though.

The ability to get FTTC on an Exchange Only line is very variable, some areas if the economics are right then the lines are reengineered to allow FTTC
There is no hard and fast rules, depends on cost and what extra funding from council/BDUK is also available

I am not using ADSL, I am connected via a wireless system, called point to point wireless broadband or something like that. If i was using ADSl i would get around 3-4 Megabits per second if I am lucky as I am a fair distance from the exchange.
That is why I said I could get FTTC slightly cheaper than what I am paying now, and that would also include a phone line something i have not got.
But I am happy with the service I get, with local support and it supports a local company. Things can change and money is starting to become a issue, but i think i would look at cutting out other things first. Lovefilm is going next month, i don't need it as I have netflix.
A mate of mine lives pretty close to the exchange and get around 16 on ADSL, but he could get FTTc as his line is still connected to a cabinet, but he don't see the point.

My parent get 20Mbps now that their exchange has been 21CN'd but as they are about 700m from the PCP the speed increase wouldn't that great for the extra cost.

When I was with BT broadband a few years back, I was getting around 3.5-4Mbp/s, but as soon as the exchange went to their so called ADSl2+ (21Cn) it dropped to around 2.5 and i had loads of disconnections, eventually they sorted out the disconnections, but I never got the speed back. I ended up going to ADSl24 on the Cable and wireless network after a bit of pushing by people on these forums One of the better things I did as I got back to over 4Mbp/s and more if i pushed it, but then it became unreliable if i did that.
One of the reason I am not that bothered about going to FTTc is because i would once again be on Bt equipment with their stupid profiling. I know it is suppose to be better than it was with ADSL, but it is still controlled by bloated toad.

FTTC is like many things you don't think you need until you try it. When you do it makes a heck of a difference especially if your using/streaming more than one machine at a time or relying upon the likes of streaming TV/Netflix etc; it just makes things that much smoother.
With the low costs of FTTC I can't see why people don't go for it...it really does make a difference.

That is a daft reason for not wanting FTTC. For me it's a choice between about 4Mbps ADSL and about 70Mbps FTTC. No contest. As for the "stupid profiling", all I can say is "what profiling?" It is simply not an issue.

I can understand people wanting it if they got a low speed ADSL service and also if they got multiple devices and that some people just want it even if they don't really need it.
No doubt if I did not have the system I am using now I may have thought about going FTTC.
As for costs, FTTc cost more than ADSL, depending on what provider you use and if someone have got a good speed on ADSl they may feel that fibre is not worth the extra cost.
True, if you are using one of the smaller providers for your ADSL, then you may be able to get FTTC for the same price or less, but some people just prefer to stay with smaller providers.
Myself I will stay as I am, but I will never say i will never go for FTTC.
you had enough of DS and decided to come here?

To stay as far away from bloated toad as possible is a good reason to be honest. I hate Bt almost as much as I hate Talk Talk.
Thankfully I have a third choice, what I would have done without the third choice I don't know, but to be honest i was pretty determined not to go for FTTC.
Profiling have always been a problem with Bt equipment, certainly on ADsl where it becomes stuck
Still at the end of the day it is up to the individual.

Very true. But, we can't do anything about it. BT always put a stupid profiling on their side at the local exchange. Nothing that ISP's can do about it.
Virgin Media Cable (thankful for no profiling)
