Hello,
I have and old style master socket in my house*, and FTTC is being rolled out in the area in the next couple of months.
Will I need to have the master socket replaced? If so, who do I contact about getting this done? BT, my ISP, or my phone service provider?
Thanks
*the master socket is like the one on the left in this image http://www.thinkbroadband.com/images/iplate/bt-maste...

At the moment all FTTC installs are still done by engineers, who will automatically upgrade your socket to a modern one as part of the job. (Edit - see BatBoy's reply to this post).
Self-install is now available to the ISPs, so once they move to that you will need to make sure you request an engineer install for this reason. They will/do have that option available to them.

Thanks.
I'll bear that in mind when shopping for FTTC packages.

Sky is as well now IIRC.

Do you really mean Sky is self-install, or just no Openreach modem?

My friend near here moved home, and went directly for Sky FTTC at start of Jan. He was sent a Sky SR102 hub and some dangly filters. Last Friday his line was activated and he plugged in and now gets 30 / 8 sync. No openreach modem and no openreach engineer or subcontractor attended his home.

Wow!
So the fun is going to build up again .
Though a lot of people will have the ring wire already sorted, similarly burglar alarm cables, and I have my doubts about how significant a few metres of CW1308 is.

That looks like 40/10. I wonder what happens on 80/20?
