None standard cabinets

[link to this post]

Do such things as none standard cabinets exist? My exchange (Tayport) is due for upgrade this summer as part of the Digital Scotland/BDUK programme. Using the BT Wholesale checker I have established my exchange has three cabinets, and have plotted roughly the areas served by each one, and those which are exchange only.

However after touring around large areas of Tayport both physically and in Goggle Streetview I have only been able to establish the location of two of the three cabinets, and annoyingly not mine, which is apparently cabinet one.

Consequently I am wondering if there are none standard cabinet designs out there which is why I am failing to spot it?

Google street view will be a few months(years?) out of date.

Doesn't look as bad as mine, a few years ago, long before google did the rounds.

Both of them would need a good rubbing down before painting, which could easily leave big holes from rust disintegration tongue.

It's sometimes surprisingly easy to miss them, take a look at my local map in my signature.

When zoomed in it looks equally bad if not worse: http://s29.postimg.org/nax881lfb/cab.png

I guess if they get sufficiently tatty the council will ask Openreach to smarten them up or replace them.

Sad to say the ones in the pics are not that bad ! Years ago a old boy batting his time out would go around painting cabs but not now.Bobs one is ok his has got one new door on it ! lol just shows the rest of the cab up. Good news is with FTTC a fair few are getting a re shell so they can fit the tie cables in.

Mine looked like that but was re shelled a few months before the FTTC cab was installed.

Went and had a look at the weekend, and the Streetview image is out of date. At some point recently the doors on the cabinet have been replaced with something that looks brand new (or at least freshly painted) and has a nice shiny number one sticker on it. The rest of the cabinet however did not get any attention. The other two cabinets in Tayport have also acquired very new looking stickers denoting what cabinet number they are. At least the stickers are not present in the Streetview images.

One issue I suspect is that older cabinets are painted with a lead based paint which presents all sorts of health and safety issues for repainting them.

Isn't that one of the plastic-doored ones that are a pig to shut?

Yes I think it is.

It isnt very big but the single door looks distinctly difficult - looks as if it hangs at the top.

There is a number of them spread about in this 1980s - 1990s development.
