Fibre - FTTC

I've recently had FTTC installed (76Mb down 20mb up) and it's pretty amazing compared to my old ADSL connection.

I was wondering what size pipe feeds the FTTC cab? Do they use a 1Gb link? How do they prevent saturation etc like what happens frequently on Virgin's network?

It was actually more than 76Mb/20Mb as the engineer showed me his speed tool kit plugged into master socket and can see downstream was 130Mb and upstream 45Mb. But the exchange is limit our 80/20. So, I believe the cabinet pipe feed is more than 80/20.

Did you manage to find your line stats on your BT Home Hub 5? The maximum data rate should tell you with noise margin and line attenuation for future crosstalk.

Mine is line attenuation 10.6dB noise margin 12.8dB and maximum data rate 104409

I changed the password on my HH5 and can't remember what I set it too. I was a bit worried if I changed it, the HH5 would reboot and I don't want to trigger DLM.

No, changing password doesn't rebooting the HH5, it just updated. I been changed HH5 password, wifi, wifi channel freq and the HH5 just updated without rebooted. U're be fine.

Four fibres usually and one carrying 1 Gbps so room for expansion

1Gbps is more than the VM network has on its local cabs plus with vm it is a shared coax system

That's pretty good. Hopefully BT might surprise us one day with more speed upgrade on the FTTC one day.

interesting, the engineer who installed mine said my line could handle 125M down and 53M up. Sooooooo, at some point in the future I expect that I can get "Unlimited Line Speed, Unlimited data usage for £15.95 per month", now that's as bargin

No chance of 125M/53M because BT Wholesale capped all of us 80M/20M

You are correct now, but in 3-5 year, who knows

100mb+ would be nice.. but for ppl with ISP supplied routers, they would most prob need new ones.

Like MY HG533. Its only 10/100 lan.

I have a TP-Link N600 Gigibit router though so no issue there xD
