This all comes down to when will fibre optic be available to me, or if it ever will.
Okay so 5 months back, an openreach engineer came out to fix a faulty line on our broadband. When he was finished we asked him if fibre will ever be available to us and he said that the cabinet for fibre is already set up next to your cabinet but it's not enabled. He also said that our house is 9km away from the exchange which explains the bad speed.
We contacted BT about 2 moths ago and they couldn't really give any information about when we could get fibre, but they did say that at an estimate we could start taking orders about the end of February 2014. We have been checking the website religiously this month but nothing has changed. It still says 'BT Infinity isn't currently available to you'.
But we did notice 1 change. On the old cabinet there is now a number 16, spray painted on and on the wholesale checker it says we are supplied by cabinet 16. This happened about a week ago.
So my questions:
Could this number 16 mean that it will be happening soon?
Was the BT representative correct on the phone? Or is that just an estimate and could they be way off?
Will it ever be available to me, being so far away from the exchange? (I live in a village)
If its ever available, what sort of speeds will I get at that distance?
Thanks for your help!!!
