This all comes down to when will fibre optic be available to me, or if it ever will.
Okay so 5 months back, an openreach engineer came out to fix a faulty line on our broadband. When he was finished we asked him if fibre will ever be available to us and he said that the cabinet for fibre is already set up next to your cabinet but it's not enabled. He also said that our house is 9km away from the exchange which explains the bad speed.
We contacted BT about 2 moths ago and they couldn't really give any information about when we could get fibre, but they did say that at an estimate we could start taking orders about the end of February 2014. We have been checking the website religiously this month but nothing has changed. It still says 'BT Infinity isn't currently available to you'.
But we did notice 1 change. On the old cabinet there is now a number 16, spray painted on and on the wholesale checker it says we are supplied by cabinet 16. This happened about a week ago.
So my questions:
Could this number 16 mean that it will be happening soon?
Was the BT representative correct on the phone? Or is that just an estimate and could they be way off?
Will it ever be available to me, being so far away from the exchange? (I live in a village)
If its ever available, what sort of speeds will I get at that distance?
Thanks for your help!!!

First off, What village do you live?
Fibre could be ready tomorrow or next year. It all depends on a lot of things.
TalkTalk 24Mb
Current Line Status
Connection Speed 24272 Kbps 1019 Kbps
Line Attenuation 14.5 dB 5.5 dB
Noise Margin 0.3 dB 11.8 dB

The old cabinets usually have a number on, if recently sprayed on then means someone has just re-sprayed it.
So the number appearing in the checker does not mean it is about to happen.
Was the BT representative correct on the phone? If checker is still not showing FTTC speeds then looks unlikely, but would recommend using the wholesale checker https://www.btwholesale.com/includes/adsl/main.html which may update slightly ahead of the retail providers
Or is that just an estimate and could they be way off? It was an estimate, but with so many variables and the amount of rain in many areas outdoor projects may have slipped time wise.
Being 9km from the exchange does not matter, what matters how far away you are from cabinet 16. Distance speed estimates are at http://www.thinkbroadband.com/guide/fibre-broadband....
The reason we don't show anything for beyond 1.5km is that you are into the area where it may or may not work.

I live in Ranby. My postcode is DN22 8HP.

Try http://roadworks.org/ there are some power roadworks in the area, if they are close to the cabinet then that explains the delay, i.e. getting mains to it.

Nothing on the Wholesale Address checker regarding FTTC for your postcode address (selecting house number 1). Do you have a new FTTC cabinet near to the cabinet 16?
|
|
|
|
Yeah there is a new green Fibre cabinet next to cabinet 16.

We had a letter about the electric. They are replacing the housing cables, but the cabinet is at least 2.5 miles away from the road works

If you enter my postcode on google maps and go to the right and find 'Lake hill wood', the cabinet is on the road around there

We have contacted BT by phone and they said that are area is planned for FTTP, but this will be in June. However, if we get everyone to register interest, it could be done a little sooner. Thanks for your help guys.
