Hello,
I am currently looking at buying a new home and have found a property that is ideal, however due to my profession i require a good high speed internet connection.
The situation is that all online checks are saying that fiber is unavailable, however this property is within 500m of the exchange and therefore is wired directly into the exchange (no cabinet). The exchange has been accepting fiber orders for a time now (have had friends on FTTC for a while)
I don't know who to contact, i would even be willing to look at putting a FTTH line in (at extra cost to me).
However all BT seem to say is "we cant provide it" and "contact openreach"
Openreach has no publicly available customer information for this.
I am running out of time to put an offer in on this property ....
Anyone have any advice ?
Thanks In Advanced

What is the estimated ADSL2+ speed for the property? Checking with the current phone number or the address but not the pure postcode alone with this checker. I would expect it to be at least 20Mbps. If so, you could consider a multi-line service with line bonding.
Unless something like the BDUK project is active for your area.

Connection - Plusnet UnLim Fibre (FTTC). Sync ~ 59.4/14.4Mbps @ 600m. - BQM

£12k a year + vat for 100Mbps pipe, ouch!
Unless he needs the SLA I think I'd be looking at alternatives at those prices.
OP, is there any wifi ISPs in the area?

The exchange is
http://www.samknows.com/broadband/exchange/EACAI
Virgin isn't available. And I think a business setup is going to be a bit much (cost wise)
What I can't understand is how a house so close to the exchange cast get FTTC or FTTH

You need a cabinet for FTTC and FTTPoD. You need someone to be retailing FTTP to buy it.

The estimated adsl+ line speed is 17mbps
So how fast do you need?

Fttc is just being deployed to lines away from the exchange using the green cabinets. Large cable from exchange to the cab and then split in the green cab (voice line). The voice lines from the exchange are direct e0 lines. Fttc lines are not installed in the exchange for some reason, just in new green boxes beside the old green phone cable boxes. There are some exchanges that are getting a new fttc box installed outside the exchange building. But it looks like not where you are buying a new house.
Check the speed the house has now, or a neighbour, if that is ok then you have it. For me a 17m would work for work. A 3m line worked for me 3 years ago, so it would work again. Are you sure you need a fttc speed.

Well i'm guessing 17mbps would be OK for the time being. Its just a question if BT are planning on making VDSL2 connections available directly to the exchange in the next year or so.
I have very little faith in BT's roll-out.
Btw this exchange does have a FTTC cabinet just on it doorstep, but no "normal" phone cabinet near by ;/
No, to make vdsl2 connections available the plan is to install a cabinet outside the exchange.
Is that FTTC cabinet in use, or is it yet to be commissioned?

Having a cabinet installed outside of the exchange instead of putting the VDSL2 HW inside the exchange seems like a huge waste of money .... as BT could put that HW inside quite easy.
Yep its 100% a fibre cabinet and i'm presuming its not on line yet as even the house next to the exchange can get fibre :/
Can't be done as the regulations don't allow it.
As you can see, if that's the fibre cabinet, it has an associated cab - cab 14.
The cabinet is at
Lat : 52.647562
Lon : 1.7256568
It does not look to be that postcode (as that's on a small sub road)

I just used the exchange postcode from samknows.
Hah .... i always thought that BT made most of the regs,
Try NR305BF

The one I used agreed with the co-ordinates you posted - NR305AQ
NR305BF - No DSLAM there.
Yeah that was near the house, ohh well
17mbps will have to do ...

As I suggested earlier, you could double it with line-bonding. Then if FTTC does come along, you could keep a cheap ADSL2+ on the second line for backup.

Nope. Regulations are set by NICC. It used to be a subcommittee of Ofcom, but now seems to be separate.
NICC sets the ANFP that defines what can be connect to BT's wires (and a separate ANFP for KC's wires in Hull). At first it allowed up to 7.05MHz at the cabinet (but not the exchange), which allowed the 40Mbps variant to be deployed.
NICC changed the rules in 2011 that allowed 17MHz to be used in a cabinet, but again not in the exchange. That allows the 80Mbps variant.
Both of these had extra constraints on the transmission power, to avoid interference with exchange-based ADSL (and 2+).
NICC has a task on its worklist to look at exchange-based VDSL2 this year, but there haven't been any indications about what restrictions will be placed on it, such as the maximum frequency, or whether it can only be used for EO lines. They might even decide it still isn't possible.

Yeah that was near the house, ohh well
17mbps will have to do ... That postcode is served by cabinet 12, not straight to the exchange.
For my parent's line it says 15Mbps for ADSL2+ on the checker but in reality they are getting almost 21Mbps and that's on a 1.2km line.
Yeah that was near the house, ohh well
17mbps will have to do ...
If it was estimated 17Mbps. You can always ask the ISP to target noise margin 3dB as it will boost your speed around 21Mbps maximum speed.
