Fibre Broadband Availabiliy Question?

Hi,

I am currently with Be Unlimited & Connected to the Claughton Exchange on the Wirral. I check the Availability of Fibre, every couple of weeks or so & It is always the same...The Exchange says it's "Accepting Orders" But nothing changes with when I may be able to get it?

I read on this Forum, that if our Road has Virgin, then we are unlikely to get Fibre Broadband, Is this true?

I have seen some Roadworks outside the Exchange, but this could be anything....,!!!!!

Where can I get a definite answer if my street will be Fibre Broadband enabled in the Future or should I bite the bullet & get Virgin Fibre?

Not as far as I can see, the Only information that I can see, is the Paste that I have done in the previous Post...

The line above the table will usually say something like the following.

Telephone Number 01234567890 on Exchange BROADSTAIRS is served by Cabinet 18

If there is no mention of a cabinet then you are most likely to be on an exchange only line . These lines can't have FTTC without a new PCP and FTTC cabs being installed, this is starting to happen but it is very rare.

If no cabinet number given to the right of the telephone number then suggests an exchange only line, and as the current BDUK projects are not allowed to roll-out in areas where one super fast service is already available, then probably the case you will not see FTTC.

A further query, if I may? My Brother sent me a Txt yesterday, saying that he was being moved to Fibre. I entered his number into the Checker mentioned above & it said No Phone Installed at this Address????

When I entered his postcode, it came back with the following

No mention of Fibre at all, so I'm a little bit confused, how accurate is the Phone/Post Code Checker?

Like mentioned above, I am with Be Unlimited, for now, until Sky take over, Could the lack of a Cabinet Number be because, my Line has been Unbundled to BE? Or Am I clutching at straws here!!!!!

If the phone is LLU such as TalkTalk and Sky then the number will not work. The postcode checker is inaccurate. You should use the address checker, you just need the postcode and house number, or postcode only and select from the list of addresses on the next page.

Quite Gutted TBH, Was hoping to move to Fibre when it was offered, But from the look of things, It might be a very long wait, if not at all, rather envious of the People that can get it now, with all the Good Deals on Offer...

Don't really want to go to Virgin, But it looks like I have no Choice, If I want want Faster Speeds....

Have a look on www.roadworks.org select the option to see all work scheduled for the next 12 months and see what's going on outside the exchange. Some areas are not covered but there should be something on the councils website if not.

I put in an Address of the Main Road that Passes Our Close & That Comes Up with A Cabinet Number, But None Of The Address on Our Estate Do. The Main Road was there long before our Estate was Built around 1990...What Normally Governs An Exchange Only Line? I Would Of Thought that Our Estate, with Only being 25 Years Old would of Been Future-Proofed for Technological Advances, but clearly Not....

If there wasn't enough capacity on nearby cabinets when your estate was built then BT would of needed to install new capacity, and they went through a phase of not installing PCP cabinets but running the lines direct from the exchange to the properties.

Even if they had installed a new PCP then there may still not be enough properties on the estate to make the cabinet viable.

Ah, Now things start to be becoming Clearer, So It was More Cost Effective, to Run Cables from the Exchange, rather than Put In a PCP Cabinet? Just my luck...

Is there anyway that I can Find Out if I am indeed connected Directly to the Exchange & If So, Try & Lobby BT To Install a New PCP? I'm Sure Costs have come down since the Estate was Built....????

Is there another Telephone Number/Email Address that I can use to check?

I have successfully managed a couple of times to collar someone at the local exchange to ask questions when a van has been there - you could try that? Or ask an Openreach engineer if you spot someone working in your area, they are usually helpful and might know.

As others say, it's likely though that if no Cabinet No is shown via the BT Tel No checker for any houses on the estate that you are out of luck and are EO.

Putting in a cab does nothing for voice, and adds to the cost for fttc hence why eo is often bypassed as they do cheaper ones first usually.

25 years ago cable tv everywhere was the future. Www was just a server at cern

No, nothing to do with it. But in this case it looks like it's Virgin or nothing.
Edit: Just seen Andrew's comment about BDUK and had forgotten about that aspect of it.

Two EO areas I think, total around 300 premises.

One around Beresford Road and Cearns Road
Another near Flatt Lane

Probably two cabinets needed which increases cost and politically as VM is in area no council money can be spent, unless the overlap is not excessive

Yep I'm Off Flatt Lane, Which is the Entrance to the New Estate, Built in 1990...So Deffo EO, A Bit Gutted as I had been looking forward to Broadband Fibre...

Brother Just txted that he has been Connected & is receiving 25MEG, Which is 10x Faster than he was receiving with Normal Broadband

I get 15Meg with BE, But they have just been Bought Out by Sky, So Will wait Until I get Ported Over to See What Speeds I get, If they Drop, Then I'll move Over to Virgin & Keep An eye out for FTTP, With 300 Plus Properties, It may be worth their While!!!!

If I ever win the lottery I'll Buy my Estate One!!!!! £30 - £60K doesn't seem a lot, when You factor in the 300 or so Propeties on the Estate & Boundaries, I know some people can only dream about a High Speed connection, so I suppose I should be great flu that I can receive VM, But would've liked to have the choice!!!!!!!!
