FTTC/P & Turves

I'm trying to find out what plans there are, if any. For FTTC/P at the Turves exchange. All the lines in the village are EO with the first cab (that I can find) in Coates.

I have had a look about the interwebs for info and even tried contacting connecting Cambridgeshire but have had no reply from them.

FTTC

Three cabinets

60% on cabinets, 40% EO roughly.

Cab 1 and 3 might just be large enough to justify BDUK work, but depends county probably has lots of others to compete for the money, i.e. luck of the draw. Cab 2 is a diverse area, but 1 and 3 are fairly dense in Coates.

For Turves your EO is spread out, so a cabinet would not help a lot, and spread makes FTTP expensive.

In short I would suggest Turves is dicey for the 95% superfast target, but cabs 1 and 3 are likely by 2017, even if no current plans. Just my thoughts.

I was hoping that a cab would get installed at the exchange. There is around 200 homes close to it and around 50 further out but would still benefit.

Exchange is too small for a Handover node, so other cabinets other side of the water would link to Whittlesey for their FTTC. I see around 150 premises in a reasonable cluster, if there are more new builds going on then might sway things to a sooner roll-out.

So longer fibre run and need for a PSTN cab and FTTC cabinet increase costs per premise, i.e. other cabinets will most likely be done first and then the EO cluster, hence my suggestion of looking beyond current project and maybe beyond 2017 too.

Basically willing to bet plenty of other easier areas to give a better Value for money in the county.

My mother told me that she saw a lot of activity last week with men laying cable from Turves into Coates.

She cant remember what the cable looked like so no idea if its related to FTTC or not.

Anyone in the area see anything?

I drove past Coates on Tuesday morning there were two vans towing cables parked in the layby where the PCP is.

My wife stopped and asked them and they are fiber cables they were laying, how long it takes till it's live is another matter, there is a reel of cable Sat outside the turves exchange at the moment

What could this be?

There is no PCP at this location that I know off or can see.

Fibre aggregation node, fibre splitter maybe they use chambers that size as well as for standard copper jointing too these days.

The fibre is run in segments with it splitting off to various other locations, or just to keep the length sensible for blowing down the tubing, so you are seeing more chambers than we had previously.

Hi there, my parents live in Coates and we've been stuck on 3-4Mbs for a while (I know we're lucky to get that). Can you clarify what you mean by the above as I'm not very up to speed with the tech lingo yet. Does it look like they're lying fibre cables or is it unrelated work?

It means we know of no firm plans for the area yet, so it is wait and see

Just out of curiosity, where is cab 2?

Same here (for Ramsey, Cambridgeshire). Complete lack of any emails from Connecting Cambridgeshire despite being signed up for emails and sending them an email asking about the local area.

Positive signs that cabinets have gone live in the past couple of weeks though and a new chamber/PCP is being installed adjacent to the exchange and EO area. Fingers crossed!

Does give a deadline for September. With Coates we have just consideration by end of the year which means no action till maybe mid next year.

Sort of but sort of not - keep reading on and the September is for the initial batch of cabinets. It goes on to say:

"...More cabinets will be upgraded in a later phase, currently anticipated to be between December 2014 and June 2015. The scheduling for each phase depends upon the outcome of surveys and more detailed planning so we cannot be more precise until these are completed..."

I'm not on a cabinet and it's a direct EO line, however it does appear that roadworks are planned for a PCP which I can only hope is going to lead to some form of FTTC/P for the EO lines. It's interesting to note that there is a mention of "carrying out extra work to reach more premises" as if Openreach may be going beyond the BDUK plan which may be why they don't have specific information about what is planned/happening.

We are half a mile from this cabinet, but there is 1.5 miles of cable. Would fttc improve on 1.5mb download? We are about to install a ubiquiti link to a friend in connected eastrea for now.

Also out of interest -how do you find out information such as users per cabinet?

If cab 2 was FTTC enabled and you are 1.5Miles from it, FTTC speed would be around 10-15mbps

As for users per cab, I have no idea how to find that info but I know a user or 2 here can get that info

You're right, the BT map does show the exchange as "CS". Sounds like a Christmas present... too good to be true.

My parents are at Turves. It's so frustrating because Eastrea as you know, is almost merged with Coates but have had their cabinet enabled for about 6 months now. Not even sure why Coates isn't on the Whittlesey exchange; the distance to Turves is just as long if not longer.

roadworks.org shows PCP1 and 3 are getting FTTC Cabs installed in early October.

Nothing showing for EO lines

Just re-read my post, I meant they're in Coates. The BT Fibre website still says Dec target, how attainable is that?

if you are 1.5 miles form cab i woudl expect you to get almost little or not uplift

My mother will be around 600m from the new cab.

I can actually see the new fibre cabinet from their house as there's one just outside the local (and only) shop.

Looks like the Dec target is possible...pigs can fly!

My mother needs a new cab and pcp as she is on an EO line..

I asked her to take a look outside the TE the next time she gets time and to check for new cabs.

Might be just outside their project boundary, though.

Well they are doing something.

If you read the thread I pointed out that my mums telephone number has a FTTC RFS date for the end of the year.

And on the connecting cambs site the area my mother lives in is shown in Yellow witch also indicated a 31st Dec 2014 date

RFS dates are very inaccurate.

my friends has had his date shifted from jun 2012 now its dec 2014

even mine was moved 6 months

I wouldn't put any faith in that.

I'm not on Coates or Turves, but I am also on an EO line and showing as Yellow on the Connecting Cambridgeshire coverage map, and also with a "Live by 31/12/2014" message on that map. The PCP has been stood for a few months now, but so far no fibre cabinet has appeared - despite multiple NGA cabinet roadworks showing at the end of August on roadworks.org, but no sign of a fibre cabinet or any work during that time, nor is the DSL Checker showing the line going through the PCP yet, so not even any RFS date for me, and still not clear if it's going to be FTTC or FTTP that they deploy (I had seen elsewhere my local exchange is due to have some FTTP deployed by the same date...)

Will be interesting to see what they manage to do in the next 30-odd days and if they really do meet the date, along with the Wistow cabinet (not EO lines) which overran and has been put back to 30/11/2014 and a cabinet at the Warboys exchange (which is covering EO lines, and is showing as 31/12/2014)

The Connecting Cambridgeshire site seems to have moved from Phase 2 and 3 to Phase 3 and 4 within the past day or so, with the yellow now covering Sep 2014-Dec 2014 and Dec 2014 to Mar 2015, however all the other info such as "live by" dates have remained the same for the areas I've been checking.

Roadworks.org shows that Turves will be getting its PCP outside the TE In a few weeks.

I am trying to find more info on the cambs council website but no luck thus far. It must be there somewhere as thats where rw.org get the info from in the first place isnt it?

The Fibre cabinet has been installed over nearly two months now. What is the usual timeline to actually launching fibre availability?

Turves is getting its new PCP outside the TE Next week, the NGA Cab will follow soon after.

I would say it will all be active by the end of march... if there are no delays.

Sorry, I'm savvy about the numbers but it's the cabinet opposite the only shop in the village. Looks like superfast is coming...three years after my parents moved in and just a few months before they are likely due to depart but better late than never eh!

Looks like Turves has FTTC on P1 now - map on the Connecting Cambridgeshire site has gone green, with the rest of the area yellow and due by the end of June.

Some of the area has also just got 4G from EE - it's all happening in Turves! Welcome to the 21st century!

It is indeed showing as Green on the map but accroding to the BT ADSL Checker:

Still showing as an EO line and still only says ADSL.

May take some time to update...


EDIT:

After checking some addresses, Cab 1 is live but still waiting for a new PCP/NGA For the EO lines to go live or be installed.

Well Turves EO lines are finally on Cab 4. Its Fibre twin is installed and power has been connected..

So with some luck it will be up and running by the end of the month.
