First trial of FTTN in Australia

Seems like the Australian NBN Co has deployed a few FTTN nodes for a trial, and the first has gone "live".

It achieved 105/45 speeds at 100 metres - seemingly download speeds rather than sync speeds.

They typically think FTTN is the devil on the Whirlpool forums, but then I'd probably be the same if somebody had snatched a national fibre optic network from my grasp.

They do indeed.

The Aussie's, in particular, are very vocal about the poor state of the copper - even more so than we are. Up until now, I've not seen any reason for them being more vocal about it - it has been an entirely subjective opinion.

On the other side, I read something that mentions that the typical D-side cable is 0.64mm, so making VDSL range better than here - probably 30% better.
