Can't get fibre...direct connection to exchange

[link to this post]

Fibre is available in my area but I'm not connected to a green cabinet as I have a direct connection to the exchange, (approx 400m) for my DSL broadband.

I keep an eye on my local councils planning applications and an application for a green fibre cabinet has been submitted and approved (Aug 2013), which is approx 200m away from me.

Will this mean my line will or could be switched to the cabinet? If not can I ask for that to happen?

Thanks

Very unlikely and "how deep are your pockets?" respectively I'm afraid. It will only benefit those who are already served by the linked cabinet.

Unless of course that new cabinet is for exchange only lines. One thing the OP can do is see if there are any existing cabinets close to the new one, if not it may be for exchange only lines. Usually they end up being outside the exchange though.

Im in the same situation as the OP in that I'm on a long EO line approx 4 km and about 3 weeks ago I had a BT engineer at my door wanting to access the pole which is situated in my garden to do a survey for superfast BB. He said that they were surveying lines on the estate for either fttp/fttc so I can only hope its sooner than later.

current speed 5 - 6 Mbps
downstream attn 45.5 Db
upstream attn 25.7 Db
SNR 10.2

I'm hoping that, as I stay slap-bang in the centre of town, that my line will be bundled, as it were, with all the businesses and moved to the fibre cabinet....if such a thing is possible

Doesn't look like BT have started tackling the EO lines there yet, but they have begun in certain exchanges so there is hope yet.

Is there anyway to find out which exchanges with EO Lines have been tackled?

The BT wholesale checker simply starts to issue a cabinet number for lines once the extra PSTN cab has been inserted. So most people are possibly non the wiser

we have 2 lines both EO but last summer one was moved to a new cabinet on the outside wall, they didn't tell us, we found out by accident.
Now one line has fibre and the other doesn't and we have not found away of moving the second line but we also cannot find out why one was moved or why both weren't.
We have supper fast Cornwall on the case but we're not holding that much hope as they say "Thats bizarre to say the least" perhaps you could connact your local guys to see if they could help ?

Cheers.

EO lines come out of the exchange in multiple cables, each with multiple pairs. Perhaps they only broke into one (or a few) of the cables, and left one (or more) untouched. If your two lines come out of the exchange on two different cables, that could be the reason.
