Can I restart my FTTC modem (ECI) - risk of lower speeds?

I have not had FTTC installed for long and due to issues during setup the modem has already been restarted a few times. I still appear to be on full speed but I need to restart again. Is this safe to do? Can I just press the reset button on the modem or do I switch off at the mains? Thanks

I always power mine off/on - seems to work ok.

It's very odd to need to restart the modem if the speeds are OK. Wouldn't just messing with the router be sufficient?

Connection - Plusnet UnLim Fibre (FTTC). Sync ~ 58.7/14.6Mbps @ 600m. - BQM

Mines been on and off like a brides nighty over the last 3 years and its had zero effect on my speeds or sync or ping or anything.
