Install new DSLAM

[link to this post]

On roadworks BT are installing new DSLAM in our village, is this part of the Fibre install that is going on with the new cab? or is it a separate thing

Would think so, Does oroadworks.org say its a NGA cab? If yes then yes it is FTTC.

The only reason for a DSLAM in such a place is to provide FTTC. Is it near a PCP?

My broadband basic info/help site - www.robertos.me.uk | Domains,site and mail hosting - Tsohost.
Connection - Plusnet UnLim Fibre (FTTC). Sync ~ 58.7/14.6Mbps @ 600m. - BQM

Yes it is it says at PCP5 which is the new fibre cab that was fitted over 3 months ago, various work already done other past couple of months fibre was fitted power fitted ive listened to it and its on.

We are phase one of connecting cheshire, the next village up is on phase two so was wondering if the DSLAM was fitted in our cab to daisy chain up to theirs

If it says PCP 5 on it then it's not a fibre cab, chances are they've reshelled the PCP sometime ago and are now going to install the fibre cab.

Perhaps post a picture of the cabinet.

The cabinets are not daisy chained they each have their own fibre like to the main exchange, but the fibre reaching one cab may split off just before the cabinet and head towards another cabinet. Depends on what is the cheapest way to run the fibre to each cabinet.

If these roadworks you mention are at the same location as then FTTC & PCP cabinets then it's probably just an error. I've seen it happen to quite a few of ours, cabs were installed and roadworks show another cab scheduled to be installed, but nothing happened.

You make no sense, You ask if its a FTTC cab, then reply saying its in but not live.. so if you know its an FTTC cab, why are you asking what it is?!!?!?

Is a DSLAM another name for a fibre cab?

Basically yes, although the DSLAM strictly speaking is just a piece of equipment that's in the cabinet.

Thanks, gotcha now. I assumed incorrectly by the looks of it that the DSLAM was something that was going to be installed in to the new cab thats been there for a few months. So looks like what you said that its a false report on roadworks.

Thanks for your help

That's an understatement Ronski tongue. The whole raison d'etre of the fibre cab is to contain a DSLAM plus the gear to support and connect it.

I think what threw me was roadworks, saying "install new DSLAM" when a few months ago it said "Provide one NGA cab and base" which was when the fibre cab and base was fitted
