Linking PCP cabinets to NGA

Techie question: how are the old PCP cabinets linked to the new, fibre ones, and why are the PCP ones retained? Because the NGA only deal with data, not voice?

Always been curious about this. Do they use a special type of copper connection from the PCP?

Linked with copper link cables. The PCP is required to maintain the copper circuit back to the exchange as there is no fibre voice service for FTTC. There are also non broadband circuits I.e. phone only and leased lines, and llu lines which still require a full copper circuit to the exchange

Bundles of copper pairs link the two cabinets.

The old cabinet is retained as this is still needed for the voice and existing ADSL2+ services. It could be combined into one larger cabinet, but that would be mean larger cabinets and presence of mains when working on the lower voltage wiring might complicate things. Also it means no disruption to existing telephone services when the NGA cabinet is being rolled out.

Nothing special about the copper connection cable, its just a large pair bundle, with more added if needed.
