Openreach Vdsl Mk2 Faceplate Wiring Question

I am fitting a BT vdsl Mk2 faceplate as part of a fibre installation. I am also running a data extension lead (Cat5e) to the Homehub 5 in a different room.

I am fitting the required RJ45 plug ato the router end but which pair do I hardwire to the faceplate at the master socket?

Does it matter which colour of the pair goes to which terminal?

Personally I would use the blue pair, but as long as you connect the same pair at both ends, it won't make any difference.

OK so to which pins on the RJ45 do I connect the pair that I choose? (I have a choice of 8!)

The middle pair.

You cannot effectively use the same cable to connect to the IDC (Krone) terminals at one end and an RJ plug at the other. IDC terminals are designed for solid conductor and RJ plugs normally for multistrand conductor. You might be lucky and it appears OK - but maybe in a week, a month or 6 months one of the terminations could play up .... I have seen it too many times.

You should install an RJ socket at teh remote end and then use a patch lead.

So I wire the modem/router RJ45 as normal and then use the blue pair at the faceplate.

Exactly what I needed to know.

I have some RJ45 plugs designed for solid core & the modem/router will not be moved.

I am thinking that this will work.

AIUI you need to ensure the blue/white and white/blue are not swapped over between the two ends.

I have a diagram for the plug end but if it matters which colour goes to which terminal at the faceplate end. There are only 2 terminals but they are not marked in any way. I had guessed that polarity didn't matter for a data lead.

I realise that polarity does matter for a network interconnect.

Polarity shouldn't matter but you can always swap it around to see if it makes a difference.
