Hi all
As I type, a nice new fibre cab is being installed in our village (Hartwell NN7).
We are on the ROADE exchange but as of yet, it appears there are no plans to upgrade the exchange.
I'm guessing that as the cab is being done, there are plans in place somewhere?
Any help appreciated

Thanks. I had already seen that. Here's what it states,
"Planning and survey work underway or happening soon. Superfast broadband services expected in parts of this area from 2014"
As the cab is being installed I figured that the "planning and survey work" had been carried out and was just wondering if there was any further update on it.

Hmmmm interesting. What kind of speeds do you get?
|
|
|
The fibre can run for 30km if they want it to and still give the same speeds. The bit that governs your speed is the amount of copper phone line between your house and the fibre cabinet you end up connected to.
Some projects do not release clear data until its almost the go live date, i.e. no answer is sometimes easier to handle than constant questions about why a date has changed.

For 3/4 of exchanges the fibre cabinets are connected to a different exchange. So the chances are your fibre cabinets won't be connected to your local exchange unless it is a large exchange (serves a lot of people).

Hi all
OK getting excited.
Any of you guys know if this is anything to do with fibre? Taken from hole in the ground which is very near to the local cabinet
Hopefully pic here

Looks like a repair joint (the openreach copper people will say for sure) don't recognise it as part of the range of FTTP/FTTC hardware they stick in the ground examples of that at:

Hi OP,
What a small world! I'm just down the road from you in Potterspury and I'm served by the Yardley Gobion exchange. Around 2 weeks ago, OR started to install a (Huawei) FTTC cabinet round the corner. And like you, my exchange hasn't been fibre enabled yet. Atleast not apparently.
Having looked at the plans (a lot), I'm quite certain that I will still be served by the Yardley exchange when FTTC is available. It is odd isn't it!
I stated OR started to install the cab around 2 weeks ago. It's still not complete and the ducting is visible as it's not been covered yet. The cab definitely hasn't had power connected to it!
Incidentally, power looks to be coming from the nearest lamp post!

Hi,
I've just had an email from BT stating that my exchange has been added to the rollout plan. Well I say my exchange, the wording actually stated "[Exchangename]"!
Hopefully that bodes well for you too.
