@Miggle

You say that you'll be going with Plusnet for fibre. Are you with them currently using their ADSL service?

I've had a rethink and Plusnet looks to be really good value for money for ADSL and then upgrade to fibre when its available.

Thank you IranianGiraffe, it's always good to read words that give hope. smile

My friend saw an OpenReach engineer in his van not far from our cabinet today, and asked him if he had any idea of when we might get switched on.
The engineer said he didn't know when it would be, but as far as he knows, everything is now in place and ready to go; he also expressed that his opinion was, 'the sooner the better really'.

So back to waiting and hoping we go...

For what little this is worth, our exchange at Torcross has been moved back to November like yours. RFS was Sep 30, so...make of that what you will! Don't contact CDS or bother looking at their site - it's manually updated, and I wouldn't trust their map either.

Just got to sit tight. I've told everyone in our village not to expect anything until 2015 now.

Yes - I'm with them for adsl.
Basically they're incredibly technically savvy, I can send/show them raw diagnostic data on my connection, and I've always been able to bypass the stupid 'have you tried restarting it' questions that a lot of ISP's force you to go through. Because they're part of BT (but they don't like to talk about it) - it means that engineering work needed when it comes to your own line is fast.

I've been through a lot of Isp's (I used to work for one), as well as helping to write technical info for a couple of them too, so I've kind of seen support from both sides.

If that is the case then the regulator will have something to say about it. Neither PlusNet or BT Retail should receive any preferential treatment from OpenReach - they are just another customer as far as OpenReach are concerned.

And it does also depend on who you get through to at PlusNet. If you get to the right people then they can perform very well but most customers will end up with the call centre staff who will not have that sort of skill level.

Yes, I've probably just been lucky, in getting through to the right people. Also publicising any large issue on twitter seems to expedite the resolution. smile

PlusNet are one of the better ISPs once you get the right people involved. Some other ISPs there is pretty much no route to the right people - whereas with PlusNet they tend to make some of their main customer support people available on the PlusNet forums and TBB.

I do think they are good but your average bod on the street may find it difficult to get to the right person to give the top level support.

BROAD BAND: Good news for broad band users. A super-fast service has now arrived. If you wish to upgrade to this service ring your provider and tell him that fibre-optic broadband is now available in the village.

Extremely wishful thinking. Let's see if they correct it or not.

It would be nice to think that it will be enabled soon, but I am starting to think that we'll be lucky if we get it by next October the way things have gone so far. I'd love to be wrong, but...
It seems every quarter it gets bumped back that little further.

I think that the auto-response from Connecting Devon and Somerset says a lot really...

----
Your enquiry has been successfully received.

We aim to respond to all enquiries within 3 weeks of receipt.

Please note that unfortunately, due to the large number of enquiries we are unable to answer any enquiry that is already answered on the FAQs page of our website.

Kind regards,

The Connecting Devon and Somerset Team

----

In this day and age, 3 weeks is a truly pathetic target. So much for bringing us into the modern age...

Yes, you can laugh now.

Maybe one of the answers in the FAQ should cover why they are so pathetically slow...
