Is there any good single resource out there that goes into the detailed work needed to build an independent/altnet FTTH network. I'm looking for something that goes all the way from conception, to design, to actually building - something detailed enough to produce a "back of a fag packet" cost estimate for anyone interested in such things. There are quite a few web pages on FTTH construction but it all seems rather disorganised.
Cost depends on the distance between properties, whether the cables will be buried, what trunking is provided, availability of back haul, etc. Take a look at what Hyperoptic, Gigaclear and B4RN do.
Also you've got to link into BT's fibre at some point as well. Or Vodafone's, but the majority of time it'll be BT. Not many companies would be able to afford to lay their own long distance fibre network.
.......and also whether the digging between houses is in soft grass verges (cheap) or hard surface as in tarmac footpaths & roads requiring (expensive) restitution.
