Birmingham Broadband Question

Just a quick question (cos I'm curious about it) is there anyone in Birmingham that isn't served by Virgin and are currently not able to get fibre via Openreach as we're not part of the 66%

I know user B31 is probably one on the list. I'm looking at an informal list of Postcodes or suburbs.

Such a list is going to include everyone on an EO line where there is no cable regardless of whether nearby PCPs are FTTC enabled or not.

There's a few streets/ houses that I know of in B31,B38,B30... But Virgin is starting to fill most of these in now as they supposedly got some funding.

As mentioned on here before, most of the properties/streets are new build developments...

and virgin seem more interested in getting new builds on their network now.

Funding from who? What procurement process was there if this is public money?

People currently think BT is the only people to have got money, so highlighting others is important

Just what I was told when I contacted the Birmingham Superfast Vouchers scheme for info on Openreach in my area...

The reply I got was my area probably won't get it or at least not any time soon and that some funding for my area (South Birmingham) had gone to Virgin Media.

And with the work they have been doing out and about lately I would agree that it is the case.

There are a lot of "complex broadband issues" in the Northfield constituency, according to the MP's office.

I can't think of any other areas off hand. All my previous properties (Shirley/Hall Green) have been on the cable network, NTL, Telewest, Virgin Media.

In fact five out of seven places I've lived in have been on the cable network - only uni halls (not even a phone line!) and my current house weren't.

Last I checked, this is the case for most of us in the city centre, even those who live next to the central exchange (the irony burns goshdarnit). A few bits of the JQ have FTTC, and there's an apartment development (one near the canal, I forget the name), which has FTTP.

It's nice that Virgin are installing in areas where BT aren't down side is there is no competition. I'm not overly comfortable with a monopoly which Virgin are in certain areas. If Openreach install, then we are open to competition from most ISPs.

I know, thats my biggest gripe where I am... Virgin have all the power
