Re: BT Vectoring

They might find there is a lot of legal cases out against ISP's and or BT if they decide to start shutting down ports with no regard for the end user. BT might also find a lot of blown up line cards if they start doing that.

I can think of many reasons not to use or trust the BT provided kit - like the fact they broke VPN's on a previous firmware upgrade, and the fact a modem in bridged mode holds stateless traffic...

From what I'm aware the trials worked in controlled conditions, but there was the worry about EU's without compliant hardware, faults and failures and what it would do.

It is worth noting that the likes of Draytek Netgear etc are all starting to develop vectoring compliant firmwares - it can only be assumed they will follow the G. standard.

Billion already have a VDSL2 modem/router out that supports vectoring in the shape of the 8800NL with more higher specified models to follow apparently.

In reply to a post by MrSaffron:
Left hand up for a national try it and see effort i.e. modern version 1.0 beta software release
Right hand up for a slow but measured engineering approach

Middle finger up for still testing to a small area with one of 2 hardware manufacturers after a year if that is the issue.

Vectoring will break some kit people have purchased, and other kit won't be compatible. This is not an engineering problem it is a policy one.

There is no urgency because none is required. Most CPs have no choice but to use Openreach, the bean counters don't have much of a business case to devote resources to it.
