Hunslet Exchange Cab 42

There has been / is currently being a new FTTC cab installed.

I am not sure why but They seem to be digging across the road in the opposite direction from the route the main cable come in from too. (i know this as a few weeks ago they did some work to repair a duct from the "main" road)

How long might it be untill they install the DSLAM / make the service Live?

They have updated the work description and it now shows why they are digging across the road " Works are to include the Northern Powergrid power jointing process".

On the average 2 - 6 weeks once the thing is powered up, so long as there are no problems.

Where is cabinet 42 if you don't mind my asking, doesn't seem to be near 40 or 43, one of which is getting enabled under BDUK and the other added to the commercial rollout by someone who was high at the time.


Cab 42 is on Jack Lane NSG Reference 23030317

Wow some one has put a rocket up someone's [censored].

Yesterday the power work was completed and the hole's have all been filled in.

Today BT Openreach are there with a cable role and 3 van's.

Is it black with a yellow stripe, or something else?

Not clear from your original post if the cabinet is stood or not?

The new cab is installed.

The "cable" was yellow and in a role with radius of about 2 meters.

Good news, hopefully it won;t be too long until you can order now.

Out of interest, is that the typical procedure? To feed fibre from cab back to exchange? I assumed it would be the other way around...

I've seen the cable around my area too. I believe it's actually the sheath which they lay in the ducts, then at a later date they blow the actual fibre throug it.

In my case the cable was laid before any cabinets were installed in the village. They're starting to appear now, and I saw an engineer doing some wiring in one of them the other day.

Still waiting for my cabinet to go up though - roadworks planned from tomorrow smile
