Hello All,
I have had EE Fibre for over 18 months, and it just works and have never really looked at the technical stuff.
But have recently acquired a new Laptop & NAS, So have decided to "upgrade" from ECI Modem/Brightbox.
I have an "Unlocked" HG612 and shortly a Asus RT-N66 Wireless Router.
I have a few questions, maybe my search statements have not been correct.?
The N66 router default address is 192.168.1.1, If I have read correctly the HG612 is also 192.168.1.1 by default,
>> so I need to change that by connecting a PC to LAN2 and change it.?
Again if I have read correctly the HG612 by default is a modem/bridge,
>> Do I need to turn off DHCP in HG612, I would prefer to use the N66 DHCP.
At present my Username/Password are in the "Brightbox",
I have read various things about entering Username/Password in to the HG612 it'self, but I think that is when used as Router.?
>> or do I need to enter my EE Username/Password in there, or just still in the Router
Are there any other settings I need to adjust in the HG612/N66U
I have seen references to PPoE.? , QoS , MTP.?
It's been a long time since I last posted, and I feel rather rusty....
Many Thanks for any help/guidance/pointers

Hi this might help,
I have my HG612 set up with the IP of 192.168.1.1 but with DHCP off the LAN1 ethernet cable going to the wan port on my router and LAN 2 which is used for home network with an Ethernet cable going to a normal Ethernet port on the router.
I have DHCP turned on in my router but set the IP address to 192.168.1.2 and for it start handing out IP addresses from 192.168.1.3 and onwards. I connect my computer and other devices to the router.

Hi,
Thanks... I will probably take that route(no pun intended)
I was more concerned about router settings for connecting to EE.
Looking at the router it appears to have some auto negotiate wizard you can run
that will do the set-up for Username/Password etc...
Thanks...

Same here, except adjusted to a router setting of 192.168.1.254.
On an "asbokid" unlocked HG612 it still defaults to bridge mode. I believe there is an alternative unlock these days.

Thanks...
I guess I will just connect it all up, and change it to an appropriate address.
Cheers...

I always set the router LAN address and DHCP range without it connected to the modem.

I swapped out the router 1st, it just connected after entering BB User/PWD.
Didn't want to complicate matters by doing router & HG612 at the same time.
I will do the HG612 after I'm sure the new router is O.K
I have connected the HG612 to a Laptop.
I changed it's IP addr to fit in with my existing ip range.
I have been looking at all the settings,
I know the mode should be "Bridged"
but should the type be: ip_bridged or PPoE bridged..?
I have read "QoS" is best disabled, which it is.
Also, the Firewall is set to Standard, which I believe is correct
Is there a list of what should be set in the HG612,
I'm with EE, if that makes a difference.?
Thanks....

decided to 'upgrade' from ECI Modem/Brightbox. Didn't EE send you a BrightBox 2? They should have. It is a 1-box solution incorporating the VADSL Modem.
