Non-Wifi router for FTTC

As I dont need the router to provide any Wifi - I have multiple Wifi APs after a managed switch - can I make do with any old "cable" router without serious impact on performance ?

No

If you want to support 76Mbps speeds you need a relatively modern router, which almost all have wireless. Just turn it off.

The ones without wifi are usually more expense SME type devices

So I wont bother trying an old Netgear wgt634U I have laying around but maybe a Netgear WNDR3300 (unused) will do.
I know they have wifi but .....
Cant find anything in the specs which indicates the speeds they can handle but dont want to buy a new one unless necessary - its not like I need the latest wifi standards on the device.

What you're after is good WAN to LAN throughput over PPPOE - a known CPU-intensive task.

NOTE Those tests are JUST for traffic, the use of PPPoE for the modem connection generally slows things down.

The WNDR3300 should be enough.

The HG612 is just a modem isnt it ?
Thanks for all the comments everyone , it has made me realise that I need to look at all the devices I am using to make sure there are no bottlenecks if I want to get the full 70Mbps everywhere that is important.
But at least I can wait and see what problems I get where before buying anythikng.

No. It's a modem/router in bridge mode.

Unlocking it is easy. Many people do that to get at the line stats which on FTTC are sometimes very useful as the bin layouts re very different from ADSLx.

As I said, a few people have used it as a modem/router, with no problems that I'm aware of.

I suppose most people want wifi from the router so the HG612's capabilities as a router go unmentioned (almost)
Will buy a locked one and play - it can replace my current Netgear ADSL2+ modem/router until fibre is activated.
