How to complain to BT and get a result?

[link to this post]

Thanks to BDUK I've now got VDSL - BT infinity 2 - and am getting 16 up and .75 down. This is way better than my ADSL at 1.9 BUT it's way below my max clean estimate of 34 and not a lot better than my impacted worst of 14 and the upload is only 25% of the worst estimate. BT retail advertised it as "upto 24 Mbps"

I'm not looking for technical advice but rather has anyone deployed a successful stratigy into BT retail that resulted in Openreach switching over pair etc. Although my line passes line tests I know it is not a good one compared to my neighbours. I'm acutely aware that this is the best Internet connection I'm going to get for the forseeable future and want to maximise it!

All bright ideas grateful received.

Can you check/confirm those figures?

Any reason why its BT Infinity 2, Infinity 1 is cheaper and will give the same speeds.

Retail might listen for 10 seconds and then say its above the minimum so its fine.
Retail might give you option to leave or stay. Leaving gains you nothing as will be same speed elsewhere.

No legal obligation on anyone to provide you the retail advertised speed, just platitudes explaining the range of speeds.

NOTE: Do the neighbours actually have a running service? Or is the they are better based on the estimates?

Ah. So when you say 16 up, .7 down you actually mean 16 down, .7 up smile

Can you post the line stats found in Troubleshooting ¦ Helpdesk on the HH5 web config. Usually Lines 1-12 are sufficient.

I'm not looking for technical advice

Why not ?

The first thing to check is the installation. If this has been self install, all the more reason to check.

It is really rare to have 16Mb down and only 0.7up on FTTC.

If you self installed have you got the filters in correctly?

Have you any extensions?

Something really sounds wrong and could be internal rather than external.

.... Because I'm pretty sure that I want to get openreach to spring into action ...........No not self install, that's why I went for Infinity 2. The engineer (Kellys) put a new face plate in (in fact we tried two in case the one was duff), we also disconnected all the internal wiring and tried with a modem rather than just the HH. I also cut the power to everything bar the modem to rule out interference. He did a good job as far as I can see to rule out issues at my end. I think the map that a drew him to find my cab made him go the extra mile! My ADSL was 2.3 whereas my neighbours away got 3.5+, I was rather hoping that my issues where E side but it seems I've a shonky D side. I'm going to have to live with this connection for years so I'm happy to fight a some, in the final resort I might also go for a second line and see what I can get from that.

Is your phone noisy? You can try a quiet line test by dialling 17070 option 2.

The usual way to complain and get a result is to email the CEO of BT. You can find companies CEO email address at www.ceoemail.com

Strikes me that the upstream noise margin is extremely high, even though the max attainable upstream isn't that much higher.

It looks like something is wrong in there...

I've seen a number of Faster Broadband with Fibre users on that sort of profile - 797 upstream.

So is the consensus that apart from pinging BT execs that there is no prospect of reasonably trying to get openreach to switch me to a new pair? Seems a little nuts !

Can you elaborate as to what the issue could be?
