Laying fibre across a motorway?

There's no plan to extend fibre to our village. Could it be because there's a motorway to cross?
The exchange is 4km the other side of the M11 from our cabinet.
My question is: how much more complex/expensive is it to lay fibre across a motorway or other major trunk road?

They would route via a bridge or other crossing point unless their was an existing route

They can bore horizontally, but it's expensive.

Has been known for the drill to pop out in the carriageway though!

Happened years ago on the M1 near Dunstable (J11).

If you give them about £50 000 they will do it. But the bridges have phone lines in them or over head phone lines. If you give me your postcode I can check

How does the copper lines reach you now?

Thanks - it's CB11 3YH. There is a bridge fairly close which may carry the lines now, but I'm not sure (there are no poles near the bridge).
(The main reason we're not included is that we're a small village - having a motorway in the way is just an added expense).

for 50k I would it myself and then rent it out to BT

A service duct will most likely exist under the motorway or run under bridge.

So more down to their being other areas with better value for money ie cheaper to do or just randim luck of planners spreadsheet

If you look on the link I have attached, if you can see a different colour patch going along the path by the fence, that probably indicated the phone line is under that.

Secondly, this is what SuperFastEssex says,

This area is covered under the Superfast Essex Programme. For technical or financial reasons, alternative technologies will be rolled out

I checked your map and I believe you are under 'alternative technologies'. This means they might be installing FTTP or ADSL+2

A bridge near me was recently replaced. The deck of the bridge, that the road runs on, came ready made in sections and they all had pre-installed ducts running through them.

I would imagine all new bridges, even motorway ones, would do the same -- you can't really dig a trench across them.

I'm afraid that Superfast Essex do not mean FTTP when they talk about 'alternative technologies'. Their glossary states:

'For technical or financial reasons, technologies other than fibre will be implemented here to secure a minimum download speed of 2Mbps'

And what they really mean is wireless broadband:

Yes I'm not holding my breath for fibre!
However it is at least encouraging that Uttlesford have put out to tender for (up to) £100K for wireless broadband to cover the last 7%, I just hope that's enough to cover everyone.

The link "scrutiny report" downloads as 'thinkbroadband.ashx' and does not open. Change suffix ashx to pdf and you can read it in your pdf reader
