?
He means just a wiring cabinet for copper connections. That means it carries phone + ADSLx broadband to you, but nothing at all to do with fibre broadband I'm afraid.
My broadband basic info/help site - www.robertos.me.uk | Domains,site and mail hosting - Tsohost.
Connection - Plusnet UnLim Fibre (FTTC). Sync ~ 56.4/14.5Mbps @ 600m. - IPv4 BQM IPv6 BQM

HI Everyone,
Would you have any ideas in how openreach would get fibre to me? As in this is the cab that servers my house. What would openreach need to do to get me fibre? What should I look out for? Openreach are always around here and lately they have been in the ground with the air compressor machine.
Thanks for any advice

Usually put in an additional cabinet nearby with all the electronics , run fibre to the new cabinet , and link the new one to the existing cabinet
|
|
|
Ah excellent, they have put a new one cabinet
Like this about 800 feet away from my house - do you think they will connect them or would my house be able to connect to the new cab?
Sorry for the lame questions....

Far simpler if you just state which cabinet and exchange you are connected to , https://www.dslchecker.bt.com/ , someone may be able to give specific information.

No problems - let me get that info and I will post right back. Thank you.

Hi!
I am connected to Cabinet 56 and served by Exchange WARWICK - this is what I get below:
Featured Products
Downstream Line Rate(Mbps)
Upstream Line Rate(Mbps)
Downstream Range(Mbps)
Availability Date
WBC ADSL 2+ Up to 3.5 -- 2 to 6 Available
WBC ADSL 2+ Annex M Up to 3.5 Up to 0.5 2 to 6 Available
ADSL Max Up to 2.5 -- 1.5 to 5 Available
WBC Fixed Rate 1 -- -- Available
Fixed Rate 1 -- -- Available
Other Offerings
Copper Multicast -- -- -- Available
For all ADSL and WBC Fibre to the Cabinet (FTTC) services, the stable line rate will be determined during the first 10 days of service usage.
Throughput/download speeds will be less than line rates and can be affected by a number of factors within and external to BT's network, Communication Providers' networks and within customer premises.
The Stop Sale date for Datastream is from 30-Jun-2012; the Formal Retirement date for Datastream is from 30-Jun-2014. The Stop Sale date for IPstream is from 30-Nov-2012; the Formal Retirement date for IPstream is from 30-Jun-2014.
Note: Please note that postcode and address check results are indicative only. Most accurate results can be obtained from a telephone number check.
Thanks for any help in advance

The way it works is that where the copper pair from your house terminated (in the PCP - which is just a wiring cabinet), it's connected through to the new FTTC cabinet via something called a "tie cable". There is also a filter to make sure the broadband signals go only to the FTTC cabinet, and don't disappear down the cable to the exchange.
So if you go with an FTTC solution you will be connected to the new box via way of the old one.
If your distance is an accurate reflection of the cable length, you should get very good speed. Possibly the maximum currently offered.
I'm also guessing that the infrastructure in your area is fairly new. That PCP looks quite shiny and new compared to the rather drab, old ones round here.

Hi TheEulerID,
Thanks for the post!
Thank you for explaining how it works. The small box has probably been around here since 2005 onwards. The new box has been empty and left open but I watched the openreach chaps (yes, I am that sad...) working on it for a few hours. I do not think the box is up and running yet as I keep checking BT / openreach and Sky for updates but nothing yet.
I hope that I will be able to get fibre soon!
Thanks again for your reply

Thanks for that, yes it didn't have any vents either side or back as I had a look. Thought that was a bit strange, I suppose I will not be getting fibre anytime soon then..... Thanks for the reply

It's a Cabinet Cross Connection 7. 7 Duct version.

New PCP cabinets are often a prelude to a fibre cabinet appearing

Thanks for the replies.
I saw one of these new cabinets with a bigger fibre cab next to it today - I will keep my eyes peeled for openreach installing one - I hope this happens soon.
Thanks again
