Speeds to expect on 40Mb over WiFi?

[link to this post]

I get 30Mb maximum no matter what I do, I have upgraded the wireless card to 802.11ac and connecting on 5GHz with excellent signal quality. Tried tweaking but nothing helps. My connection was activated last Wednesday, the stats are:

Up
Connection status:
Showtime
WAN IP Address:
92.13.154.211
Primary DNS Server:
62.24.243.4
Secondary DNS Server:
62.24.202.70 Line Quality

Upstream line rate (kbit/s):
2000
Downstream line rate (kbit/s):
39994
Upstream noise safety coefficient (dB):
20.2
Downstream noise safety coefficient (dB):
13.6
Upstream interleave depth:
0
Downstream interleave depth:
0
Line standard:
VDSL
Upstream line attenuation (dB):
27.8
Downstream line attenuation (dB):
14.5
Upstream output power (dBm):
5.3
Downstream output power (dBm):
12
Downstream interleave depth:

I thought I'd get nearer 37Mb or so, I can't even get that over ethernet though. It's probably the [censored] "super router" TalkTalk supplied.

When you run the speed test here, and follow through the "extra diagnostics" at the end, what value does it say for your profile speeds?

If your connection really is 40Mb you should get 40Mb via WiFi assuming your kit is up t it. From what you say your kit is adequate. Have you tried a wired connection?
What tests results do you get on speedtest.net?

Suggestion is there is some congestion somewhere. Try another in the morning

Why not use a top end router such as the Asus RT-AC87R? With this i'm getting the full 75/19 meg speeds on 802.11ac on my talktalk connection. If you're looking for an all-in-one VDSL router then go for the Asus DSL-AC68U which is just as good.

Extra diagnostics doesn't work on TalkTalk, Sky, Vodafone etc LLU connections.

802.11n should go faster unless a very congested 2.4GHz spectrum and the speed test suggests that is a possibility, i.e. tbbx1 is slower than httpx6

He's running wireless-ac at 468 Mbps on 5GHz. I don't think it's wifi congestion.

Just tried wired up again and got http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/3947371697 so being as I sync at 39994 downstream. I am missing nearly 10Mb, so I'll make a thread on the talktalk support site in the morning.

Could just be busy time which Sunday evening is. Hence suggestion to run our speed test that gives much more indication of whether it is a congestion or some speed limit kicking in. Try it Monday breakfast time
