So close to FTTP but no biscuit.... Ideas?

The business I work for is moving premises and the new area (business estate in Redruth Cornwall) is enabled for FTTP. Cue getting all excited.

Unfortunately, after speaking to the Super Fast Cornwall people, it appears that BT are working off 6 year old maps to work out who to connect up. i.e. any building that has been built in the last 6 years isn't going to be connected as it wasn't on the original plans. This of course applies to the building we are moving into.

Has anybody got any knowledge of BT updating their FTTP (or FTTC) rollout to deal with new premises? I would have thought that a bunch of businesses surrounded by properties already connected to FTTP would make a good business case for them.

The worst point is that as the cabinet has been upgraded to FTTP, it will never be enabled for FTTC (at least that is my understanding) so we are stuck on ADSL2+.

Looking at some of the nearby (older) properties, they seem to be currently getting the same results though I believe that FTTP is now available to them. Maybe they haven't and there is still chance that the property will get upgraded to FTTP. I guess we need to wait and see.

Ah, I see - You need to use the address checker rather than postcode.

Phone number checker is best, if you have a number that BTW records can relate to (ie not Sky or TalkTalk)

The Address checker is next best, even if you only put a postcode in. It then gives you a list of addresses to check; the top of the list tend to be ones that BTW/BTO provide services to - and can predict. The ones at the bottom tend to be addresses from the PAF that have no service, and no prediction.

The postcode checker used to have all sorts of problems, where it gave FTTC/FTTP service from one cabinet, where another also supplied properties in the same area. However, nowadays it doesn't seem to bother with fibre at all - it should really be put out to pasture.

Was going to post this morning to check if they were using the address checker.

One word of caution to those saying the cabinet says it has FTTP so everyone can get it. Have found areas where some on the same cabinet can get FTTP and others cannot. Sometimes this is a checker error and sometimes this reflects a network build that is either not finished, or some obstacle stopped them.

In terms of new builds, a lot will depend on what the builder/developer did in terms of liasing with Openreach. If a builder just ignores the fibre issue, then you get the bare minimum legal coverage and will only get re-visited when there is slack in the system, which will be some years away given current priorities.
