Hi,
I've had FTTP for about a week.
Check out my SUPER FAST connection.
http://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest/button/14188...
Pretty glad I didn't pay 8K to have it installed. Anyway, it is just about OK during the day but in the evening it crawls.
Does anyone know how to get past the BT borg defence mechanism to get a fault raised against the Exchange/wholesale as I've already had an engineer out this afternoon who could find no fault.
The exchange is SMWS and there is only around 20-30 FTTP connection on the Exchange at the moment.
I'd rather not waste anyone else's time.
Regards,

Both. The TAP3 is as bad.
Optical test was ok.
EDIT: Worth pointing out I'm not the only one who has the exact same problem. People in other streets (so not same splitter) have similar issues. One guy on 200/20 has been downgraded because he could get nowhere near.
Regards,

Are speeds better in the small hours? If so suggests a config issue in the backhaul

I've just looked at your tbb speed test result.. Please could you register on the Main Site as well as here, (same or different nick is fine), then do another? It does another test that helps when there are speed problems, as opposed to pure interest. See this one where there are no problems and the two downstream graphs are close together.
There can be big differences, and that gives a clue.

Andrew,
17:00 - 0100 it is rubbish.
02:00-16:00 it is ok but still a bit variable.

Points towards a congestion issue rather than a hardware failure
Maybe one or two locally are using the 200 Mbps option an awful lot

Erm. I'm one of the first connections. BT are being VERY slow at doing installs.
So there is 300 homes about 15-20 connections and it is the only FTTP on the Exchange.

I suggest something to do with one of:
- the rubbish time is when TVs are on;
- "TVs" probably includes the notorious Sky boxes;
- Christmas lights turned on;
- a radio ham gets home from work and switches on his radio system.
FTTP???
are you sure

Yes, it's FTTP

They only cater for 15 Mbps if on a 40 Meg, 30 Meg on the 80 Meg and 40 Meg on the 330 Mbps service in terms of peak time capacity.
Generally there has also been moans about BT Retail performance from some areas, but not many people posting bad speed tests.
In theory the Openreach and BT Wholesale (who pick up the data at the exchange and may have got their sums wrong - and have underestimated the size of pipes in the past - its almost a tradition) should know what size links you are all sharing.
A good test would be if there is someone on another retailer on the FTTP on the exchange.

80Mbps INFINITY 2

I imagine it's terminated elsewhere, probably SMBA, as SMWS is a pretty small exchange.
Anyone reporting issues on SMBA?

Hi,
Yes SMWS hangs of SMBA. But, SMBA is ok. You might be right. It would make sense.
The actual fibre goes to SMWS - I know that for a fact.But, I guess it could go over the CWDM network to SMBA.
