How long to activate??

[link to this post]

So,

Here's the deal.

The exchange is LCTUR, we've burned through six RFS dates, Openreach now states we're in a superfast area, but Wholesale haven't activated it yet?

The question is how long before they do? Will it be weeks, months or sometime whenever never??

One would have thought that as soon as the infrastructure is in place they'd be chomping at the bit to get people signed up?

Thoughts anyone?

Fibre Phase: BDUK Lancs 12b

[Cabinet 2]
FTTC Planned (exchange ready 24th January 2013)

Fibre Phase: BDUK Lancs 11b

[Cabinet 4]

[Cabinet EO(1)]

[Cabinet EO(2)]
ADSL2+ only

[Cabinet EO(3)]

[Cabinet EO(4)]
ADSL2+ only

[Cabinet EO(5)]
ADSL2+ only

[Cabinet EO(6)]
ADSL2+ only

[Cabinet EO(7)]
ADSL2+ only
Seems there are several Exchange only blocks which only have ADSL and ADSL2+.
Also a bit confused everywhere I check it says your exchange hasn't been upgraded yet.

Also did a check on the BT DSL Checker with most of the postcodes for each cabinet and EO Lines and they all come back with only ADLS, ADSL2+ and no mention of fibre.

However BTOR Where and when site says the following:
Superfast Fibre is in your area but we can't tell by your postcode/number if you can get it right now. Please contact your communications provider, who can check using your phone number.
And also the following for some of those homes on those cabinets:
Your area will be enabled within the next six months and we'll provide more details nearer the time. At the moment you can't order Superfast Fibre.
Hopefully one of the others that have access to better info will reply.

Paul

The only extra bit of info I can see is that Openreach are still doing some fibre work between Turton and Bolton (the exchange is fed from here) and have various blockages to contend with.

Paul,

Thanks much for that!

I've been confused by the BT DSL Checker as well - seems to be woefully behind the times!

We'll see if anyone can come up with more info??

Hello Chris

What's your Post Code if you don't mind?
Don't really want to check every home for every post code for that exchange.

Yeah, even SamKnows says no fibre for that exchange yet, but that site has been wrong in the past.

Paul,

It's BL7 0EG.

Really keen to have FTTP installed to improve Video Conferencing amongst other things so sooner the better.

Cheers,

it looks like BL7 0EG is 100% EO and that BT are putting in a new PCP (P6) to cover that. So current plans are FTTC and no FTTP Im afraid. ( Same thing happened to me) Also 31st March may just be the placeholder date, as its EO and needing a new PCP they will take the easier Cabinets 1st then get to the EO lines later.

Ok, just checked and it seems that those 20 homes for that postcode including yours are on an EO (Exchange Only) line, well BT's DSL Checker says so.

Its the same for postcodes BL7 0EF and BL7 0EA also for your road.
Not many homes down that long road.

Also BTOR says the following:
Exchange name: Turton

We're keen to bring Superfast Fibre
to your area and are exploring how
best to achieve that. We may
deliver it as part of our commercial
programme, or by working in
partnership with your local
authority. At the moment you can't
order Superfast Fibre. For more information visit the FAQ section >
That's all that I can find out, sorry.

Paul,

We're so close to exchange it's not surprising it's an exchange only line.

Incidentally, the DSL Checker advertises Annex M as being avilable but seemingly not according to BT wholesale?

Any way to push them on this or otherise?

Yeah, its the same for my address.
ADSL 2+M (ITU G.992.5 Annex M) is the same as ADSL 2+ (ITU G.992.5) but with faster upload.
Normal ADSL 2+ can have an up to 1.4Mbits upload speed where as ADSL 2+M can have up to 3.3Mbits upload speed.

If we don't ever get Fibre I am hoping for ADSL2++ (ADSL4) up to 52Mbits down and up to 5Mbits up, this is still currently in development as far as I know.

As for you being close to your exchange I say your about 502m (as birds eye view) close to it tongue

At least your probably going to get fibre before us due to you being under a BDUK funding.

Seems that BTOR are concentrating on the BDUK installs over the commercial install hence the halt on our fibre install along with 12,000 other homes on our exchange which is on the same fibre rollout as us.

We are part of the 66% commercial rollout that started back in 2011 that was halted in mid install to possibly complete all the BDUK contracts first, what's worse is I can see the fibre enclosure (i.e. black bottle) along with the black tubing with yellow stripe on it on the top of the pole, just no fibre blown in, where as 5 houses down they can get FTTP, and it also doesn't help being on the outer edges of our exchange coverage (about 3.5km) so we get very slow speeds.

Granted we are not the worst, there are 27% of GB slower than us, so I cannot really moan.

Humph!

Still not hold my breath though!

Incidentally, I tried to get Annex M as a stop gap and was given an emphatic No, despite the fact the BT Wholesale DSL Checker says that it is available.

Only explanation from BT Wholesale is that they don't supply it!!

Same, been waiting since 2011 when our last ISP invited us to beta their fibre product, BTOR starting the install and was also told by them another 2 to 3 weeks for it to be completed, now over 3 years later still no fibre LOL.

The thing that I think is wrong was the way BTOR went about it, our last ISP sent several emails and phoned them several times to get an answer why the work had stopped and they just got fobbed off and ignored.

Our last ISP should of contacted "Don't Get Done Get Dom" LOL

At least where your under the BDUK fund you have a chance, We cannot get BDUK funding due to being part of Greater London (supported by the commercial rollout)

I say just wait until end of March and then see.

Oh they do supply the WBC ADSL 2+ Annex M option, but you need to be a business customer for that.
Check this out Can't get ADSL 2+ Annex-M Broadband hope that helps.

Oh, well I don't know then.

Strange that when I was on the phone with them a while ago when I was complaining about being put on ADSL Max when I order ADSL2+, I went through all options that was available to me from their DSL Checker and I was also told that Annex M was only available to Business Customers.

I guess it depends on who you talk to, or maybe they no longer sell that product.
If your with BT, have you tried posting this question on their site?

Of course maybe the trick is to talk to a different provider on the Annex M rather than BT Business.

Success!

After arguing (politely) with BT yesterday over lack of Annex M, (and filling out a fairly scathing questionnaire about the call this morning), lo and behold they came up with a solution this afternoon.

It's a bonded line which will give me at lease a 3 meg upload!

Of course they first tried to charge me £111 for installation, but when I refused the engineer (who was listening in to the conversation with Sales) intervened, and to cut a long story short they waived the charge!

My need is to be able to send HD video so the additional bandwidth helps.

Thought you might like to know.
