Hi,
Cabinet 2 in Slapton (WWTORX exchange in Torcross) has long since had the fibre installed, but we're still waiting for power due to an unknown problem. Connecting Devon and Somerset don't know when it'll happen, and Openreach are oddly quiet on the matter; there's also no upcoming jobs listed on roadworks.org.
Has anyone else been in this position, and/or is able to find out when we might be turned on?
Thanks
Will

Often waiting on a wayleave to connect to power on private land. Can take days, or months.

All I can find is the following:
Exchange Name: Torcross
Exchange Code: WWTORX
County: Devon
Cabinet: 2
Fibre Phase: BDUK CDS 12a
Fibre Information: FTTC Planned (exchange ready 4th March 2014)
Result Count: ? (no speed test done)
Please note that these speeds are using BT's DSL Checker and uses the lowest and highest values for that postcode and cabinet.
Had at least 1 issue retrieving information from the BT DSL Checker. Cannot see anything else, sorry.
May be worth waiting for one of the others that can find more info.

Thanks Paul, Andy. Good point about private land, but realistically the new box is only a couple of metres from the old one, on council property, so I think the issue is less legal and more technical. Just a bit painful waiting and waiting!

The old one won't have power. It is entirely passive.
The power will be coming from somewhere else.

Hi Paul
Where are you getting this info from?, I would like to check my exchange if possible, or do you work for an ISP/BT?.
Thanks

Hi Paul
Where are you getting this info from?, I would like to check my exchange if possible, or do you work for an ISP/BT?.
Thanks LOL, na, I don't work for any ISP.
If I was working for an ISP like BT, then I wouldn't have issues getting Fibre
I have written an application that allows me to do some checks using postcodes, exchange and cabinet into without causing impact issues to their network.
Its just it can become time consuming when loads of postcodes are returned for a cabinet.
As for the sites that I use, one is the BT DSL Checker which I use to compare speeds etc and the others have been posted on these forums.
Just a matter of looking.
I cannot get the whole lot of the information, just what is made public online.
What postcode?

SP3 6BN - right out in the sticks
No info that fttc is coming at all apart from roadworks.org showing cabinet being installed between 16-24th of this month..

I assume your on Cabinet 1?
Sadly the places I get the information from is saying different information like what cabinets are being used etc.
Exchange Name: East Knoyle
Exchange Code: STEASTK
County: Wiltshire
Cabinets: 1
Fibre Phase: No phase information found.
Fibre Information: None found.
Result Count: 48
[SP3 6BN]
Has 48 result(s) connected to Cabinet 1 with ADSLx with approximate speeds around the following:
ADSLx (Worst): Up to 4.0 (downstream rate) -- (upsrteam rate) 2.5 to 7.0 (downstream range)
ADSLx (Best): Up to 6.0 (downstream rate) -- (upsrteam rate) 5.0 to 8.0 (downstream range)
Please note that these speeds are using BT's DSL Checker and uses the lowest and highest values for that postcode and cabinet.
Had at least 1 issue retrieving information from the BT DSL Checker. Strangely I cannot find any information on that cabinet.
There was one address with that postcode that was connected to a different exchange than these, they had FTTC.
Also it seems according to my information that your exchange hasn't been upgraded to fibre yet and also has no fibre cabinets linked to it yet, or maybe this info hasn't been updated where I look.
What has me confused is its not even saying if its an exchange only or using a PCP cabinet, where as the BT DSL Checker says cabinet 1.
So you may have to wait for somebody that does and can get that information.

Yes I'm on cabinet 1. The only info I have is that the fttc cab will be installed 16-24th Feb (roadworks) and is 'due' to get it by end of this year (according to Wilshire online), so a pretty broad range, hopefully there won't be any issues once its installed and will get it sooner rather than later this year.
I have a feeling it is being hurried through because there are some capacity issues anyway with ADSL on this exchange (sub 2mbit speeds in the evening on premium), although they won't admit it, probably just wishful thinking though
Thanks anyway.

All I can see on roadworks is the following:

[Description]

All that says to me (I may be wrong) is either upgrading 2 PCP Cabinets 1 and 2, or maybe installing those two, I think they are just phone cabinets and don't think they are fibre ones.
Also your exchange (as far as I can see) hasn't been upgraded yet.
So I say possibly end of the year according to the site you said.
I am currently checking every postcode in your area that is connected to your exchange, I will PM you the info I get due to it will be long and I don't want to hijack this thread with a long list of info.
Actually I will just give the stats, list was way way too long.
Exchange Name: East Knoyle
Exchange Code: STEASTK
Cabinets: 1, 2 and EO
Fibre Phase: No phase information found.
Fibre Information: None found.
Result Count (P1): 253
Result Count (P2): 403
Result Count (EO): 183
Result Total: 839 I checked all 839 addressed, sadly none of them had any fibre on them.

I think you may be wrong there - it says NGA cabinets - Next Generation Access cabinets - to me that means fibre cabs.
Reason I say this is when they were installing the cabs around here (swtb), roadworks had a mixture of NGA/Fibre in the description but all were fibre cabs.

Yeah, plus the installation of a short(ish) length of duct - they're the fibre twins. The shorter lengths of duct are for the power, the longer for the PCP tie-ins.

Well I did say I may be wrong , but all I saw was PCP1 and PCP2 in the information and I assumed PCP Cabinets I.e. Phone cabinets.
Also when I saw the same information on roadworks for my area I thought great fibre, took a walk round, and saw a brand new PCP cabinet next to my old one, this was to replace the old one and was to also have brand new inners.
So that's why I thought it was PCP Phone cabinets.

Hope you're not right
Although the cabinet does look like something out of the 60's so could do with replacing..

Well like I have posted in another post with an image of my old PCP Cabinet shown here and the new one we have installed December shown here and these are both PCP Cabinets, that I think was what I saw on roadworks back then.

It may be that both things get done, they "re-shelled" my PCP when they gave it its fibre twin too. As far as I knw this isn't because they look bad, it's because usually (but not always) a PCP cabinet has no more room inside for the additional verticals (the metal columns) needed for the copper tie-in cables to the fibre cabinet. I would guess that sometimes the PCP and/or its guts are unsuitable for other reasons, though.
Like the first person who mentioned it, though, it's the fact that "NGA" was mentioned in both descriptions which would surely indicate it being a fibre cabinet.

Well they normally just remove and replace the outer shell and keep the inners giving them space on the right hand side, unless there is loads of errors and issues then they install a completely new PCP Cabinet next to the old one say a few feet apart and just move lines across, and once all done remove the old one.
As for the NGA in the message from roadworks like I said I assumed it was just a new PCP cabinet due to we had the same for our area and we only got a brand new PCP cabinet.

Well it gets more interesting... not necessarily in a good way though, last weekend I noticed a huge roll of what appeared to be fibre optic cable on the side of the road running up towards the PCP (about 200m away), as well as a hole in the verge which had a cabling in, all looking good I thought, then on this Friday I checked again to see if anything was happening since last weekend and the job had disappeared from roadworks.org, the one for PCP2 in the village is still on there but not PCP1 now.
Wouldn't mind if it shifted the date to a later one (not too much!) but the fact it has completely gone is a bit worrying. I am going to email Wiltshire council and see if they have any further info.. was hoping to have it sometime before summer but now fear its been delayed.

They may of finished it, It gets removed from road works when its completed, check the date it says for PCP2 (says 16 Feb - 27 Feb) so on Friday or Saturday it will also disappear.
I say go and take a look to see if the fibre cabinet is there.
Going by the info from road works it should be either 1m to 4m away from your PCP Cabinet.

Took a walk past the cabinet with the dog this morning - no sign of anything new.
I've got two days off work next week so might take a walk down into the village to see if anything is going on either at the exchange or the other cabinet, hopefully if someone is around from openreach/a contractor I'll get some info from them.

Well most BTOR engineers or sub contractor only know about their current job and most of the time have no info about other jobs, however you may be lucky and they may of been given both jobs.
I remember asking one that was working on a phone line on one of our side roads, and when I asked them about the FTTP install they both pointed to the manifold in the chamber/pit and up the pole, and seemed shocked when I said that no fibre has been blown yet.
However like I said you may be lucky.

Yeah just the same old rusty one
The reason I think they may know something is both jobs appeared at the same time so a good chance they would be working on both sites.

Drove past the other cab (PCP2) on the way home from work as had to do a detour anyway (honest!), they have the Fibre twin installed, no one was around to quiz though, looked very recent as had cables still sticking up out of the verge.
Still no sign of ours though, although some digging appeared to have taken place just in front of the existing cab since I walked past it at the weekend, hopefully something happens tomorrow or I'll be pestering Wilts council to ask what is happening.
