FTTC cab installed over a year ago but still not live?

[link to this post]

I signed up to Virgin Media (previously Sky) for their fibre broadband. Now Sky are offering 50% off for VM customers only for 12 months, but the FTTC cabinet which sits next to our PCP cabinet is not live and the go live date keeps being pushed back. The cabinet was built end of 2013 and then the go live date was end of March 2014, then June 2014, then September 2014 and now March 2015. Not holding me breath but it would be nice to know why it's taking so long and if this is the definitive date it'll be going live, if anyone with the know how can tell me?

It's PCP 20 on the LVHOO exchange (CH66 2XH).

Thanks in advance.

The reason normally why cab dates are pushed back are due to duct blockages. I have checked on roadworks.org, there dont seem to be any at the moment. There dont seem to be any BT roadworks, just Virgin.

Check this out, it shows you dates of when cab will be installed:

hope this helps smile

What the F! Just checked the DSLChecker website again now. Bear in mind yesterday it said "31-Mar-15". Now it says "31-Mar-16"!!! 2016?!?! That's a joke. Can I complain to Openreach to get some answers as to when this cabinet will go live?

It could be that the local council has refused planning permission for putting a power to it or whatever other reasons.

Go to that box and listen - do you hear anything? (Fan humming) It will tell you if it has power or not.

Make sure no one is watching, tho, else people would think you're odd. tongue

Done that already when walking the dog, on more than 1 occasion too and always at night so I'm not seen lol! Last had a listen a few days ago but heard nothing.

I emailed Openreach earlier via their website - there was an option to make a complaint about a recently installed cabinet and another (hosted by formwise) for people with queries about FTTC without an existing service. We'll see what happens I guess. Is it worth contacting the council too and if so is there a specific department I need to contact?

Openreach have replied and basically said they apologise for the delay and that there is no complaints procedure. Have asked them to clarify what's taking so long as they didn't say anything.

Just had another reply from Openreach as follows:

I can confirm you are connected to HOOTON exchange cabinet 20.

I am so sorry we have not been able to provide you with fibre broadband at your address yet.

Your date may have slipped because as we build, we often find unforeseen challenges and complexities that we simply couldn't plan for. These may need either more time to work around or a different solution altogether. Our published dates in most cases are accurate however, because of the above, unfortunately they can move. We strive to share as much information as we possibly can to help you to make your choices as much as possible.

Your cabinet is already in the rollout plans this means that we are expecting, all being well, that you should be able to order fibre broadband at the end of March 2016 .

I am sorry there has been a delay but each cabinet will involve different amounts of work to fully enable and make it ready for orders.

Rest assured we are doing everything we can to deliver service as soon as we can

Please check our website nearer the date for further updates.

Yours sincerely,

Alka

This sort of response is a bit like the responses I used to get when I emailed the NGA enquiries email address just before they shut it down.

Incase anyone else is interested, the form I used is located here: https://www.formwize.com/run/survey3.cfm?idx=505d040...

how long be for it goes live Thank you for taking the time to contact us.

You are connected to ABERGAVENNY Exchange, Cabinet 12.

We are continuing to build our network to cover many more areas all the time. We believe this is the fastest rollout of this type anywhere in the world.

Rest assured we are doing everything we can to deliver service as soon as we can.

We appreciate that this is frustrating, however, we are bringing fibre into your area so please keep an eye on our website from the end of March 2016 for an update. Its where we publish the very latest fibre coverage information and we update it weekly. This is when we would estimate that you should be able to place your order, all being well.

I hope this can help you understand that we have a real commitment to delivering superfast broadband to the people and businesses of Britain.

I am sorry that we have not yet provided you with this service.

Yeah, all I got from them was that they are sorry and to check they site end of Feb and that they update that info weekly and at that date I "may" be able to order fibre.
TBH I think its all a joke to them, its a shame they just cant be honest with people and say a rough date like a year at least.

We have been messed about by BT/OR since Oct 2011 with our FTTP rollout and its not funny anymore, and if its not sorted soon we are jumping ship to VM when/if they install in our area.
