Can anyone point me to an image file for the latest HG612 firmware?
Have been running an ECI at 72 Mbps with 8ms latency. Then two weeks back there was an overnight reset and I believe an upgrade to the cabinet with G.inp and my line dropped to 65Mbps and 15ms latency.
I have just installed an HG612 with SP10 and that makes it even worse - 60Mbps and 25ms latency!
I would like to see if a latest (2015) version restores te line to the nice stable 72Mbps.
edit to add:
Reverting to the ECI has brought back the 65+ Mbps and 15ms latency.
And my cabinet is Huawei.

I believe that the ECI modem should download a G.Inp friendly firmware upgrade if you can persuade your ISP to get your DLM reset.

The one linked by spud is the one you want.
Did you have full line stats before the overnight reset or not?, Your line could of been effected by crosstalk way before the reset but until the line went down you wouldn't of known before it happened.
Take my example for instance
My line was synced at 34meg but then someone else had a line installed and it caused crosstalk on my line and the SNR margin on mine dropped from the usual 6 down to 5, (this in turn caused the attainable to drop down to 31meg) It stayed at 34meg with a 31 attainable for a few months until an overnight resysnc caused it to drop down to 31meg as predicted by the attainable as it always recconects at around 6 SNR.
I wouldn't of known this unless I had the full stats available to me and it would of just looked like the issue was the overnight resync where as this was not the case.

No line stats - an ECI modem. In use because it give a higher speed. When I had an HG612 in place there were no issues apparent with low error counts. Had a new user caused the problem I would have expected the reset to occur during the day soon after connection.

Personally I've found my line just loses SNR margin and so Attainable most of the time whenever I have a new user effecting my line, Only a few times has my line dropped due to a new user and even then one of them was because the engineer knocked my line (I'm first connection in cab) and it ended up with a very loose connection and a engineer had to be called out to fix the issue (my cabinet has the old style connectors and is generally falling apart and as such I can tell when the cabinet is opened up as the SNR margin shoots up).
Hopefully yours will go back to the previous speed then with a firmware upgrade but I know that if it was my line then 90% of the time I can kiss goodbye to that speed. (had 54 when I first had fibre now 15months down the line I'm down to 31 due to crosstalk)
Luckily for me my unlocked HG612 syncs higher than my ECI modem to the ECI cabinet and as such I can see my stats very easily (ECI modem is too much of a pain to mod for me to see the stats)
Good luck anyway

I have pretty much an identical situation to you, around 2am on 17th March my connection slowed from the 79999 / 20000 I was enjoying to around 85000 (90 metres from CAB).
When we first moved here I also noticed slightly faster speeds from the ECI modem so stuck with it but I might have to revert back to my HG612 so I can see whats going on (and also update it to B030SP08 if I don't have it yet).

I believe that the ECI modem should download a G.Inp friendly firmware upgrade if you can persuade your ISP to get your DLM reset.
I believe that the only reason to use a DLM reset is if an old ECI modem (without the required firmware) gets plugged into a line where G.INP is already configured; in such circumstances, the ECI will say it is in sync, but it won't be. The DLM reset allows the modem to sync, and the working line then allows the new firmware to happen automatically.
However, where the ECI modem was already plugged in, it is likely that it will already have been upgraded to the required firmware in a natural way.
Conclusion: If the ECI modem can achieve a proper sync, then a DLM reset is not necessary.

I have just installed an HG612 with SP10 and that makes it even worse - 60Mbps and 25ms latency!
Note that "SP10", whilst the highest SP number, is not the most recent firmware.
The history of public firmware for the HG612 seems to have been, in time order:
- B027SP06
- B028SP10
- B030SP06
- B030SP08
IIRC, I reflashed mine with B028SP10, but left it open for automatic firmware upgrades. BT have subsequently updated it to B030SP08 using the automatic upgrade mechanisms. In doing that, I lost the Web GUI on the modem, but kept telnet access - which was fine, as I didn't trust the GUI stats anyway.
It seems likely that the "SP10" variant on that list is not compatible with G.INP, but (unlike the ECI) will at least achieve a working sync, but with higher latency than normal.
Have been running an ECI at 72 Mbps with 8ms latency. Then two weeks back there was an overnight reset and I believe an upgrade to the cabinet with G.inp and my line dropped to 65Mbps and 15ms latency.
If the latency jumped like that, it is more likely that DLM intervened with standard FEC+interleaving, rather than G.INP.
|
|
|
Had a new user caused the problem I would have expected the reset to occur during the day soon after connection.
Unlikely. A new user connection would affect your line by anywhere from less than 0.5dB upwards, but not often more than 3dB.
Your line can easily survive one of these, perhaps two, three or four; it could continue surviving for months. It will, however, be running with reduced SNRM, and possibly ends up accumulating higher errors.
Without visible stats, you could not tell the difference.

Thanks for the comments from yourself and others!
I was suffering with a massive latency pulse every 40 minutes and it could not be solved - OR did find slight degradation of a joint which improved speeds by a small amount - had it been left it would really have degraded. However the pulses remained and changes of modem to other HG612s did not alter it. The intervals changed, speeds varied slightly however still problems,
I was seeing 62-64Mbps and 20ms. After a further few days changed to ECI which stopped the latency pulses, and speeds improved to around 65-66. Then speeds went up to 72-74 with sub 10ms latency and have been that way for months.
Then suddenly, the drop right back to 65 or so and 20ms latency along with a couple of drop outs at that time.
I installed an HG612 and that pushed latency up even further and a slight speed drop and te latency spike seemed to be back!
My link doe snot seem to like HG612s, even though the DSLAM is Huawei!.
I want to try the latest firmware to see if it has sorted the problem!

Yes, the information was a bit confusing at first, so it seems that the ECI modems will update correctly.
I think my line data on Zen's portal is not always updating, it doesn't make diagnosing things too easy. But I have not lost sync, although my backup ECI modem might not work.
If the current ECI firmware is adding in extra latency with G.Inp then I suppose that a future upgrade should improve it. If it is deemed necessary.

No, The ISP will not going to reset DLM. Because it Openreach engineer need to attend at the cabinet but Openreach will not do this until a real fault on the line to fix it. In another word, Openreach will not reset DLM because of no fault on your line.

Any thoughts?
Connected PC, powered up modem with Reset pressed and held.
Went to 192.168.1.1 and had the upload page available.
Uploaded version ...30SP08 with WebGui
Allowed maybe 10 minutes and tried to access 192.168.1.1 again ... fails to connect.

I had this issue, and realised I had previously changed the default ip address. Try using that address, or else try the process to factory reset the modem back to defaults - which the flashing process does not appear to do.

I think sometimes things need a cold reboot after flashing.

I don't think you can use the web gui to update the firmware, it doesn't work! You basically have to do the same steps as for unlocking the modem but load the latest (08) firmware.

Did not say I used the WebGui to update, I updated to the version with access to the WebGui.

I'll add the next part here too!
TRied reloading 030SP08 WebGui again - failed, then tried 030SP08 Unlocked - same failure, so went back to 030SP06 and tried that with a "Long Reset" It worked and I had access.
Could see I was connected at 77Mbps ... better than the ECI at 65 ish. So, tried loading 030SP08 again and it works - access. First speedtest was up and down from mid 60s in 70+ which may well be due to it being 5:00 pm and school kids!
Latency has dropped from the ECIs 18 ms down to around 12ms of maybe less - not quite as good as I have had before however better than the 20+ I was getting with 028SP10.
Need to leave it running and see what happens and if my "latency spikes" reappear or have gone.
edit to add:
A few error during the initial training however after 10 minutes no additional ones.
Speedtests are now coming back at 72Mbps on TBB and 74 on BT Wholesale

I presume I am ok to check and perhaps update the firmware on my HG612 without disconnecting the ECI modem (I have a spare LAN port on my motherboard)?
Now to try and remember the update procedure for the HG612...
|
|
|
Yes you should be able to ... I did!
However, I would suggest disconnecting your LAN, just in case, then using the readdressed second port to update the firmware. Interesting to see if you can go straight to the latest version.

I did seem to get to bcm96368MVWG_fs_kernel_HG612V100R001C01B030SP08_webgui first time, to be honest I can't remember what was on there previously.
I am just checking now to see if I have a record of it...
EDIT: It must have been SP10 as I didn't have SP08 backed up anywhere.

One day Huawei will sort out the way fields are populated in te GUI!
Mine Gives: Down -/- Up
SNR Margin (dB) 16.3 -/- 0
Line Attenuation (dB) 13.6 -/- 6.8
Output Power (dbmV) 13.6 -/- 6.8
Whereas from Telnet I see figures of: SNR 6.2 -/- 9.1 : Attn : 16.3 -/- 0.0 : Pwr 13.6 -/- 6.8
So they are putting Attn in the SNR line, Pwr in Attn and Pwr in Pwr; totally losing the SNR figures!

I got a replacement HG612 this afternoon from an OR engineer, as I was failing to get PPP after G.INP was applied on my cabinet.
That sorted it., but whatever f/w, s/w was in it was way out of date and it was sync'ing well below 50Mbps. I flashed it a couple of hours ago with 30SP08_gui and it worked straight off. Sync as in my sig.
Waiting for PN Current line speed to update from 46.6Mbps now.
|
|
|
I am actually seeing a Sync of 77299 - on a line of around 450m. I really should measure it exactly!

I am so tempted to try this HG612 but don't want to spoil the upgrade procedure of the ECI (Plus my fiance is still working and will kill me if her VPN connection goes down!).

I found my line retrained with 48 hours of flashing SP08, lower latency was about all I gained.

I'm sure these used to be displayed correctly, mine are wrong too and I got G.INP today, is it connected'

I have seen reports from a couple of other users that the GUI stats are mixed up after G.INP has been activated, so it probably is the cause.
I don't have the GUI firmware version on my HG612, so I can't check it out.
|
|
|
Strictly speaking, we shouldn't actually have access to the GUI with the latest updates directly via BTOR's remote updates.
If the results from telnet command xdslcmd info --show contain "Bearer 1" or any references to G.INP, along with all the 'other' new data, that would confirm that G.INP is active:-
