Hi guys, really hope someone can help as i'm getting frustarated to death now! No one seems to want to take charge!! Apparently we're part of the commercial rollout and connected to cabinet number 24 on the Newton Le Willows, this exchange has recently been upgraded and our area in now enabled, BUT we can't seem to find out when the cabinet will be upgraded.
Can anyone advise?
Kind Regards,
Daniel Crampton
Burtonwood Resident.

More precisely premises connected via cabinet 30 can order a FTTC based service.
Believe this is the only cabinet out of 33 that is live yet. Cabs 27 and 34 are probably next as part of the BDUK project in the area.
The BDUK projects mean resources are generally concentrated on those since there are contract penalties for not hitting deadlines, so for pure commercial cabinets it is just a waiting game.

Thanks for your reply Andrew, what does that mean to someone who's a little stupid? (LIke me)
Are you saying there are 2 cabinets connected in Burtonwood?

AH! Ignore that. "Read it properly" Sorry.
I see what you mean now.
The thing that is most annoying is Burtonwood is part of the ERDF money given to Connecting Cheshire as part of the Rural broadband set up.

Fibre Information: FTTC Planned for 30th September 2015

Please note that these speeds are using BT's DSL Checker and uses the lowest and highest values for that postcode and cabinet.
Had at least 1 issue retrieving information from the BT DSL Checker. Well I can see that your exchange was upgraded around the last quarter of 2013.
I can also see cabinet 24 down for FTTC as a commercial rollout and says that its planed for end of September 2015.
Also seems that the rollout hasn't long started and have other cabinets (9, 10, 12, 16, 17, 23, 29 and 31) that are also planned to be completed by end of September 2015.
Please note these are rough dates and my get delayed due to issues that may pop up.

Daniel Well I have been waiting since end of 2011 for our FTTP Commercial install to be completed where parts have been done like all the hardware etc, some have been waiting longer.
I have been told by BT that ours is going to get finished and is still part of the FTTP Commercial Project, just that it "may" take longer, like I have always said even to BT, BDUK rollouts are being favoured over commercial rollouts which isn't fair, but I understand the reasoning behind it.
Like I always say, "Its just a waiting game"

Yeah i appreciate we're all in the same situation, i think the worst thing has been no one taking ownership of it all. Connecting Cheshire say its connecting Merseyside, Connecting Merseyside say its Cheshire and it just carries on like that!
We were "Supposed" to be connected last year due to the EDRF money, but who knows now!
Lets hope September is reasonable!.

The ERDF money will only be used in areas with market failure, so if a cabinet was deemed viable with commercial money then it will not be done using the ERDF money.
So while the 'area' go the ERDF funding, where it is actually used will be on a much smaller scale.

Hi Thanks for your reply, not sure what you mean by "Market Failure"? (Meant in a polite way) Have you ever been to Burtonwood? There really is nothing commercial about it at all and this type of village is one of the typical villages that this money was funded for.
The ERDF money will only be used in areas with market failure, so if a cabinet was deemed viable with commercial money then it will not be done using the ERDF money.

Never been to that part of the UK, but maps show it is 'rural' by the every day definition.
Market Failure means that no commercial provider was willing to provide a service in an area, and as BT had cabinet 24 on its commercial roll-out list, unless BT withdraw it from the list (a controversial move) then the ERDF funding will get spent in other areas where cabinets were not deemed commercial.
ERDF funding is also not meant to benefit consumers as its main target, so is a lot more likely to go to business park type areas that are just outside the commercial footprint of BT and Virgin Media (and others)
The roll-outs both commercial and ERDF/BDUK funded are such that they are not being done at a 'cost no object' level, but rather value for money within the proscribed timescale, and as no enforced timescale exists on the commercial side they can put them on the back burner.
Annoying, but you cannot deliver everything to everyone at the same time.
There is some good news from www.roadworks.org
7 May - 20 May
(PCP24), NGA RELATED WORKS, (PCP24) 356580,392814 356569,392817 OPPOSITE HALTON VILLA ON CHAPEL LANE NEWTON LE WILLOWS

So looks like things are starting to actually happen. NGA cab means the fibre twin and poly duct is the ducting used to link the new cab with the old phone cabinet.

The irony is there is huge development happening on the edge of Burtonwood called Omega Warrington http://www.omegaopportunity.com/development/, but they seem to have funded the Fibre themselves.

Hi Dan
I think you are out of luck..
I am a Burtonwood resident and I am also in control of internet at my employer (also in Burtonwood).
We have been told;
Openreach have told me that the fibre upgrade for Cabinets 6 & 10 in Newton le Willows has been delayed. Openreach are currently coming to the end of the commercial rollout and will be reviewing any remaining work. The timescale for the next review is 6 months.
email reply from the complaints specialist at BT.com
Looks like its been shelved without warning.
Sorry

Cabinet 24 is still on for end of September along with a few others on Newton-Le-Willows.

I have been told today that cabinet 31 is two weeks away from being completed. Can someone confirm if this is true or not please?

If you are referring to Exchange WARRINGTON (LVWAR) cabinet 31 then its already live and has been for a while (end of 2013)
If you are referring to exchange WA12 9WA (LVNLW) cabinet 31, all I can see is it saying end of September as a rough date.

Hi
I was referring to the second one.
As they are currently doing work on the cabinet (road dug up around it) could this deadline of two weeks be possible rather than the expected end of September date you have found?
Also what website have you visited to get that date?
Thanks for the reply.

|
|

HI, Hope you're well; Is there any way of checking where things are up to?
So far, the road has been dug as you stated.
Cabinet has been installed and by all accounts wired.
So what else needs to be done so to speak?
Thanks for your time.

I spoke to the OpenReach engineers working on cab 24 and they said the cabinet was all connected up. I asked how long before live and was told two to three weeks. Clearly it looks like it going to be September. Ahhhh.
Went through all this in North Wales about 10 to 15 years ago but even where I was now has fibre. Like coming to the dark ages with absolutely no usable broadband and very very poor mobile signals on both my providers.
EE and now BT say they have good coverage including 4G might get a SIM only from BT for 12 months.

The end of September is just indicative of the Quarter the cabinet should go live in, it could go live a lot sooner than the end of September, especially if there's already another cabinet live on that exchange.
There are probably a lot of cabinets that were earmarked for the end of June that are now end of September.

OK thanks for that. You are obviously aware that the exchange has changed from "coming soon" to "under review". Does that mean that any further cabinets are under review and that completed cabinets will come on line?
Thanks

I'm connected to Cabinet 31 in N-L-W and ive been waiting for a couple of years now watching the due date creep forward month by month! the cabinet is now "under review", even though the exchange is live and the cabinet was built recently ....who knows when it will go live! it says september but ive seen those dates move too many times to keep my hopes up.
Any updates would be appreciated

Is anyone able to give me any more information with regards to the connection?
Not seeing much action at the cab.
|
|
|
I dont believe this...
I have just done a check on my cab (Cabinet 31) and seen it could be between April 2016 & March 2017 before I receive fibre!!!!
FTTC is currently not available on this cabinet due to following reasons:- Cabinet to be enabled between Apr-16 and Mar-17. Date to be confirmed once the survey is complete..
Surely not???

Sadly its turning in to a hell of a joke.
I was able to order Fibre on the 11th of August for my Cab (24) With a connection date of the 27th.
27th arrived on for me to get a call from the engineer to advise that there wasn't enough spare capacity in the Exchange.
This appears to now have been connected as someone I know has been told they're getting connected on Monday 7th. But still nothing for me.
Did you see the bit in the Guardian about BT saying they were hoping to complete the other 3 Cabs by Christmas?
|
|
|
|
No I haven't seen that article. Which 3 cabs are they on about?
When did it say that? Can you post a link to it please?
Does this mean you are never going to get fibre in your area?
|
|
|
Here's the link pal.
http://www.warringtonguardian.co.uk/news/where_i_liv...
I'm really not sure where the 3 other Cabs in Burtonwood are.
I'm connected to the Cab outside St Michaels, it will happen soon (Next few weeks) but they haven't given me a definitive date. But a friend on Milnthorpe will 100% have Fibre on Monday.
|
|
|
|
Ah I see.
My exchange is Newton-Le-Willows not Burtonwood.
I dont know if Burtonwood still receives its data from Newton mind?
|
|
|
|
My apologies, that's the confusion.
Yes, Burtonwood receives its data from Newton.
Can you get on to your Local Councillor?
|
|
|
|
Would be worth an email I guess?
Already tried emailing Openreach but didnt receive anything near to concrete to a completion date from them.
If between April 2016 & March 2017 is the true date then that is a [censored] farce. Especially since the cab was fitted in my street over 6 months ago!
|
|
|
|
Cabinet fault, Waiting replacement card to be fitted, should be done soon.
|
|
|
|
Thanks for the reply. A neighbour has been given a confirmed date of Monday 7th.
Could this be the connection date for myself too?
|
|
|
Possibly , If the card is changed in time otherwise neither will.be getting connected

Thanks for that. More sense out of you In 2 exchanges than and 20 phones calls with BT.
1st they said no room in the exchange, now saying card issue.
Appreciate the reply. Fingers crossed.

Hi. Is there any way to find out if the card has been replaced?
DSLChecker keeps changing from 80 mps to 1mps
Frustrated to say the least.
|
|
|
|
not a faulty card -- but a full Card -- awaiting a 2nd card
|
|
|

1st connections after cab went live failed as unable to get sync. Diagnosis was faulty line card, ordered, delivered, was waiting PCR tech to install

Hi Ribble
Any idea on the likely timescale for the cab 31 (Newton Le Willows) to be completed? The cab has been there for over 6 months but still saying under review.
Thanks

Finally after a wait of almost 3 years, BT Openreach have finally activated their fibre broadband service to cabinet 31.
I being so eager and not wanting to miss out on the first batch of availability have placed my order to upgrade with Sky.
Speeds of between 67mb - 80mb have been quoted so far. A marked improvement on the current 6-7mb we receive now!
