Replacing Faulty Aluminium Cable.

[link to this post]

As anyone succeded in getting BTOR to replace faulty aluminium cable with new copper.
Either through their isp, or complaining directly to BTOR.

What is faulty about it? And if there was a real fault the cable would be changed irrespective of whether it was copper or aluminium.

Killing my fibre speed,it's gone from 50Mb down to 9 Mb to12Mb in the space of 6 months, & in the last few days the phone is now affected, crackles, etc.
I have had 55 Resyncs since 1st June, using DSLStats they are logged as
Remote Defect Indicator/DLM in most cases, a couple are Negative Margin or DLM.

Current problems started in May, but it's has got worse this month, had problems with phone line, which BT couldn't resolve, so they move it to another pole & routing, end of last year.
Numerous engineers have blamed aluminum as the cause of my problems, & have reported it, but nothing ges done.

Report a voice fault in that case, if it's crackling then there is a joint problem somewhere that is intermittent.

That is assuming the crackling is present when the broadband hardware is disconnected.

Aluminium itself does not cause the problems you are seeing. As others have said, bad or corroded joints are the most likely reason.

Time for a up date, they have replaced a section of the troublesome cable today.
This morning my stats were 13Mb, tonight I'm upto 74Mb, but at one stage I was syncing at 84Mb, last for nearly 2 hours, which I consider to be a misreading by DSLStats.

How can it misread? Your sync speed is reported by the modem.

I'm on 80/20, so I though actually getting 84Mb wouldn't be possible.

Out of interest, did they actually tell you that they'd removed some aluminium cable and replaced it with copper, or did they say they'd "Corrected a fault", or something else? Did they say they'd be working on the rest of the troublesome cable? Just wondering exactly what information you were given, for clarity.

DSLStats may of course have a bug in it, even some router interfaces have bugs meaning figures can be displayed wrong.

Yes, although I would surprised if it was. Crackling tends to be joint related, hums and buzzes are more often modem/power supply.

I agree that a simple test will show whether it is outside or inside the premises.l

Sounds like a good result, it's going to take a fairly serious change to make 13Mbps->74Mbps smile

I wish they would replace the ally cable that's affecting both my lines. I have 55 Mbps on my Sky line and 28 Mbps on my work line. Pretty good, not, on 300m lines frown but with only 7 active fibre connections that run through the ally section, it's not going to happen.

Generally, hums and buzzes are battery faults (the line is in contact with another line), or earth faults (the line is in contact with earth).
