ECI vs Huawei - ECI faster on G.INP now? Surely not!

Can someone please explain

Originally using an ECI modem on a Huawei cab, G.INP was enabled causing the usual increased pings (7/8ms to 15+ms) and slower sync (down from 79 to 67)

Bought a Huawei HG612 a couple of months ago and it restored the sync but not quite to what I had before.

Plugged the ECI back in today and I've just synced at 79906 and pings seem back to under 10ms.

It's obviously great smile

but what's going on?

AIUI the upstream G.INP was what caused the problem with ECI modems. It's been removed, leaving just the downstream that the ECI ignores. Some HG612 users are displeased.
