Fttc dropping out

Hi all,

Over the last month I have been having issues with BT Infinity dropping out once every few nights around the 8-8.45pm mark, I have read this could be some sort of noise coming from something automatic like street lights etc but if this was the case would it not be the exact same and everynight?.

I did call BT about this and after a few calls they said they would change my line profile and I lost about 15meg but it was stable then the speeds increased and the issue returned. But I have had those speeds since day 1 in september of last year and nothing has happened until a month ago

I am using the HH5

The line is currently in the test socket with a filter rather than the openreach supplied faceplate

Could anyone give some advice?

If you think it is regular - at around the same time, then get a copy of DSLStats and leave it running, monitoring SNR at intervals of a few seconds. If you can start it at say 19:30 and leave it running it would be ideal. After a few nights, have a look to see if there is something occurring.

Street lights do not turn on at the same time - they tend to use Lux sensors to determine if it is dark enough to turn meaning that it could vary considerably day to day.

Your speeds look reasonable for the attenuation - at a guess you are 600 to 800 metres from your cabinet.

more like 400-500m

I'm 65000/19999 at 450m

Also not sure how Glasswire is supposed to help troubleshoot DSL disconnection issues!

For a comparison, I'm 850m away from the cabinet and my attenuation is 21.5.

Oh yeah, I missed that bit... my attenuation is 16db...

So he is getting a very good sync then for his line.

I'm having a similar problem on my line and it's not an SNRM problem (SNRM is fairly consistent).

I think the first port of call would be the test socket.

I have heard of the BT Home Hubs not having the best VDSL modems so that might he contributing too?

Thanks I will try that... Yea about 600m away unless it's taking a path I highly doubt

Possibly but if that was/is the case wouldn't it be all different times rather than the time frame I stated?

Based on attenuation figures not sync.

And your sync is low for 450m - mine is up at 77360/19999 on a line of around 420m.

I would say it's typical to good for 450m, compared to what I've seen reported here. I'm about 450m from the cabinet and am currently sync'd at 64394/20000. It has been over 70000 for periods in the past and will probably get back up in the 70s if and when vectoring is deployed. Attenuation is 16.4dB FWIW.

It would be quite interesting to get an idea of sync speeds at different line lengths.

I know OR have a graph somewhere but in actual use it would be interesting to see how lines perform.

I am at 16.5dB attenuation - fortunately low noise and cross talk.

I was at mid 60's which I thought was fine - then when investigating an upstream issue a fault was found and along came 77 to 78. I have a few blank tones and if I resync they should come back and I could get back up to 78.5

I have been experiencing the same issues for about 6 months now. Are you using WiFi, and is the same issue happening over Ethernet? Tried everything, Resetting the router, splitting the SSID's and also selecting the least used channel in the area,...none of which worked. Changed away from the HH5, and after almost 2 weeks, haven't noticed any.

The graph may understate speed. I am 1200 metres from the cabinet and get 36mbps. The graph suggests a figure around 25mbps but I may be benefiting from a good line and currently low fibre take-up on the cabinet because it has been enabled for less than 3 months.

I'm 1100m from the cabinet.

I used to see up to 35 Mbps (after my line was repaired & before crosstalk started to hit).

Now it's around 22 Mbps.

Does it on both, Its not just a device drop-out its total drop-out but since I let BT know I am moving provider it has been rock solid for 12 days... Coincidence?
