Exchange Only PCP/Dslam Install Near Exchange?

Hello There

First time user of this forum so if im posting in the wrong place I apologize in advance.

I am on an exchange only line and after serveral email to superfast lacashire (who are dealing with the rollout) ive had constant dissapointment with dates on when exchange only lines will be going superfast.

Today i checked roadworks.org and found http://imgur.com/bbFSwdk which leads me to believe that this is for exchange only lines as the exchange is where the X is ive drawn on the picture,

From this description, are they building a new telphone and fibre cab? and if so, can you tell me if this should be for EO lines?

Looks a bit that way.

How far are you from the exchange? Have you got ADSLx line stats from your router please?

If that cabinet is for FTTC for you, I think at that distance and attenuation you should get 70Mbps+ connection speed. (The VDSL2 comes over the copper from the FTTC cabinet, via the PCP and your existing copper). I think the attenuation figure is likely to be higher because of the frequencies in use).

ive got a few questions as im abit new to all this....

1. Is there a way to find out if the cabs being built are for EO Lines?
2. What is Attenuation?
3. If your close to the exchange on fibre, does the speeds degrade?

1.yes need a postcode
2. It s how much if the signal is lost over the copper
3. Distance to cabinrt is all important

EDIT - Sorry i forgot to add, from the screenshot of the roadworks planned, am i correct in the fact that they are building a new PCP with a fibre twin?

what they do nowadays is build an all-in-one cabinet, meaning that the pcp and the fibre cab are all in one cab. These are mainly used for eo lines moving to fttc

May well vary from area to area but I was on EO line. In our case they installed separate cabinets close to the exchange.

Yep my exhcnage too, separate pcp and fibre cab. Just waiting for it to go live now!
