Plusnet - surprisingly, once you have your FTTP connection up and running they will allow you to cancel your line rental (fine if you don't use a landline phone or are happy to use VoIP, PN don't supply FVA (fibre voice access, landline phone connected to the phone port on the ONT)).

If you check over on their forums you will find a few long drawn out installation sagas but they do seem to have a couple of knowledgeable staff that will (eventually) pick up the issues and raise them back to OR. Not perfect but probably more productive than having to deal with BT retail's offshore call centres.

The guy just up the road has just been cancelled for a second time without being told. When he asked why they said technical problems but could not tell him what they were. Flannel in other words. The guy would like all of us to keep detailed records and send a joint letter to the CEO and if necessary third parties.

I thought I'd give everyone an update from my friend. He's had the "external" visit and they have installed this.

He's now waiting for the "internal" visit to complete the installation.

FTTP is substantially more challenging to deploy as you require both a internal and external visit and its a lot harder that FTTC also there are some challenges around distance to the DP. which can cause problems and then some wonder why FTTP deployment has been scaled back !!!!!

It is harder for sure, though that didn't stop Verizon deploying it to 19 million premises, or closer to home Eircom and Vodafone in the Republic of Ireland.

Hopefully FoD 2 will make deployments cheaper, and the competition make the business case stronger.

Well in my case the only problem is BT's inability to organize themselves and to get their contracted tree surgeons to trim branches off 4 trees.
After two months they have cancelled my order without being able to tell me why so the order has been reinstated and I am now waiting for engineers number 5 and 6 to arrive only to discover the trees are a problem. Yes the tree surgeon has been twice but job not done as they were told the wrong trees. My neighbour who has the same problem with the same trees had the second internal engineer sent out first!
Yes I can see FTTP is more challenging engineering wise but Openreach's lack of efficient organization compounds the problems and cost unbelievably not only in my case but also the 15 or so people down my road who have ordered but so far in vain.
