Yelverton Cabinet 2 (WWYELV) Fibre details please...

[link to this post]

Hi,

I have been waiting for fibre for some time, and my information (very sketchy) tells me that some cabinets are fibre enable in my exchange, but my cabinet 2 is not...yet.

Can anyone please help and shed some light on any projected date for cabinet 2 to get fibre?

Many thanks smile

Thanks for that info...although it doesn't look good for cabinet 2!!! frown

At least most of the other cabinets that are ready yet have a date...Cabinet 2 seems to be sat there all on it's own, with no real fibre outlook.

Is there a reason for this? Might cabinet 2 get re-assigned at a later date? or does it not look hopeful?

I'm guessing that there's no way to move cabinets, as I suspect that a particular cabinet serves a particular area, and so you are stuck with whichever cabinet you are on...

Thanks for the info though...at least I don't need to bother looking anymore! frown

Well we are limited on what we can find, I can check how many addresses are on what cabinet and which of those can get what.

Sadly that exchange isn't on the leaked 2011 NGA Document, so I cannot see if it was part of the commercial rollout back then or if it was down for FTTC or FTTP, but by the looks like it was only upgraded to FTTC on 23rd January 2014 so if anything it won't be FTTP unless they upgrade it to that.

So my guesses is it wouldn't of been in that NGA list back then anyhow, but I may be wrong.

I have started my checks on all addresses on that exchange which has around 3.5K addresses to be checked so that would take several hours to complete.

I also cannot see that much information on many of those cabinets apart from some are under the Commercial FTTC Project which was down for completion for 2013 but was completed in the first quarter of 2014 and seems that there is also BDUK work for a few cabinets as well, seems that cabinet 6 part of BDUK is down as "Under Evaluation" stages along with a few others and are scheduled for Jan 2016 Jun 2016.

Now cabinet 2, this might be hard to find out due to its not down as either Commercial or BDUK Projects.
According to Connecting Devon and Somerset they say following for postcodes on cabinet 2:
According to our records your area is either currently, or planned to be, commercially covered by a private service provider.

As such we are not allowed to invest in your area under European Commission State Aid regulations. You are not part of our programme and will need to contact an internet service provider (ISP) to find out about the current status/plans for your area.
So that "could" either mean that its not on their to-do list at the moment, or its down as part of the Commercial FTTC Project.

Just because its not listed as planed doesn't mean its not to get fibre, ours says fibres not available yet we have all the FTTP hardware and are part of the Commercial FTTP Project which has also been confirmed by BT and BTOR via phone and emails.

Also most if not all the Commercial FTTx Projects are on hold/delayed for BDUK work, so you "may" still get fibre, just no date planned.

Please note I am only going by the info that I can find and could be wrong, so this is just a rough idea.

Anyway, like I said I will do my tests and leave it running over night and once completed I will post that stats of the exchange so we can get a rough guess on who's got what.

Hope that helps.

That's fantastically helpful, thanks Paul!

It is so much more complex than I initially thought it would be...either you could get fibre or you couldn't...How wrong I was!

Any further info you can glean would be brill...and I too saw that "private sector provider" message, but had no idea who it was referring to...if anyone!

Appreciate you putting the hours in...Many thanks,
Kevin

I'm not that lucky!

I currently have STTC installed (that's String to the Cabinet), running along at a whopping 2Mb...Anything would be an improvement!

I don't think that would ever happen due to the exchange has already been upgraded to FTTC.

Saying that though, strange things can happen.

Ere, this is interesting.
Its got a little way through so far and I think I have found the DSLAM Cab for Cabinet 2 smile

Well I assume its the fibre cabinet for Cabinet 2?

Look at the info just below the speed info:
FTTC is currently not available on this cabinet due to following reasons:- Cabinet to be enabled between Apr-16 and Mar-17. Date to be confirmed once the survey is complete..
Like I said I assume is for cabinet 2, but now you have a rough estimated scheduled date.

It also seems that they are yet to do a survey or have done one and are waiting for the results to determine an estimated scheduled date.

Erm, not too sure, see the following:
I have found the following DSLAM Cabinets for that exchange and all seem to be Commercial Cabinets:

[Cabinet 1]
Fibre Completed: Yes
Has Fibre Speeds: Yes
Availability Date: Now
No Issues...

[Cabinet 2]
Fibre Completed: No
Has Fibre Speeds: No
Availability Date: Unknown
FTTC is currently not available on this cabinet due to following reasons:- Cabinet to be enabled between Apr-16 and Mar-17. Date to be confirmed once the survey is complete.

[Cabinet 3]
Fibre Completed: No
Has Fibre Speeds: Yes
Availability Date: 31-March 2017
FTTC is currently not available on this cabinet due to following reasons:- Cabinet to be enabled between Apr-16 and Mar-17. Date to be confirmed once the survey is complete.

[Cabinet 4]
Fibre Completed: No
Has Fibre Speeds: Yes
Availability Date: 31-March 2017
FTTC is currently not available on this cabinet due to following reasons:- Cabinet to be enabled between Apr-16 and Mar-17. Date to be confirmed once the survey is complete..

[Cabinet 5]
Fibre Completed: Yes (???)
Has Fibre Speeds: No
Availability Date: Unknown
FTTC is currently not available on this cabinet due to following reasons:- Sorry your cabinet is temporarily unavailable, capacity will be restored as soon as possible.

[Cabinet 7]
Fibre Completed: Yes
Has Fibre Speeds: Yes
Availability Date: Now
No Issues...

[Cabinet 10]
Fibre Completed: Yes
Has Fibre Speeds: Yes
Availability Date: Now
No Issues...
Cabinets 1, 5, 7 and 10 are Commercial cabinets that have been completed, 5 is either full or has an issue.

Cabinets 2,3 and 4 are cabinets that are being upgraded and seem to be placed, hence being in BT's database, now cabinets 3 and 4 has an availability date displayed in the speed section along with fibre speed info, however cabinet 2 has neither fibre speed info nor an availability date, so there may be some issues or they are still waiting for the survey results.

For BDUK Cabinets 6, 8, 9, and 14 I cannot find any DSLAM Info, so either BDUK don't display DSLAM Info on the BT DSL Checker or they are stored in Area 51 smile

Knew that as its rough location, the challenge if you now accept it is to actually find it

  • Detected 12 Issues.
All above information is correct at time of 03:28 11-Sep-2015.

Detected Issues could be stuff like:
Your address has been successfully matched; however we cannot determine ADSL availability at this address. Please try the Telephone Number or Postcode Checker.
That's all that I can find, but going by one of my last posts you seem to be part of the Commercial FTTC Project that seems to still be still waiting for the survey information before it gets an estimated scheduled date along with estimated speed information.

So unless the survey picks up issues you should still get done via the Commercial Project, which may be slow at the moment due to other BDUK work.

So at the moment its just a waiting game.

Hope that helps.

Just want to say a massive thanks Paul for your hard work in pulling together all of that information...You wouldn't believe the number of telephone calls I have made over the past month even try to get someone to talk to about exactly this information...and to no avail whatsoever!

So, within the space of less than 24 hours, you have got every scrap of info available, and built up my hopes that I will still see fibre at some point, though my timescale is now set at March 2017, as that seems to be the install date for the other viable cabinets...

If it is earlier, then great, but it gives me a target to get excited about! lol

Thanks again for your sterling work...Very much appreciated!

Cheers,
Kevin
