Connection on TalkTalk wholesage fibre

I am on a LLU ADSL connection running on the TalkTalk network.

I am interested in going to fibre since my cabinet has just been enabled. As far I have been told, TT have not yet released their wholesale fibre. So wondering if anyone has any info on when this might be.

not sure what you mean. I've got TalkTalk fibre being activated tomorrow and i'm already on TalkTalk LLU.

Incorrect, TalkTalk fibre does not use BT Wholesale it uses Openreach and then at the exchange handover node the traffic joins the TalkTalk LLU backhaul network

talk-talk have to order and pay for a gea-link cable at the exchange before they can offer FTTC on your cab/exchange.
(Not sure if these cables are required per cabinet or per exchange)

Cable is just per exchange and it links the GEA kit to the TalkTalk backhaul hardware

When an exchange is enabled that is normally when BT Wholesale has bought a link off Openreach as per this post and MrSaffron's reply to that.

Sky and TalkTalk can take a week or so to get theirs in. Just occasionally, they don't bother.

Ah, it can be read that way. I took it to mean at his exchange, rather than nationwide.

TalTalk FTTC is available from resellers. Several users of these forums are on it with Pulse8broadband. I considered it, and may move to it in a few months.

Talk Talk took almost two years to get the cable link installed at my local exchange by which time they had lost a large number of customers to BT, Sky and others.

Yes - correct.

The info I have been given is that TT have not released their wholesale fibre. I think it is L2TP which gives resellers full control of the connection. Those that are offering TT are using a TT IP address.

Is that a problem for you? Bear in mind it is the TalkTalk Business Wholesale service we are talking about, and a very different kettle of fish from the Retail service.

I can back that up. my EoFTTC line uses BT as far as the exchange and then it branches off and runs to TalkTalk's Ethernet backhaul (which is separate to the LLU backhaul)

IIRC doesn't the reseller need over 20,000 customers and an IP address block for those products rather than the "TT IP address" ones?

Are you saying that this is ISP specific and that others might already have access to TT Fibre?

That is my understanding.

The ISP in question are waiting for the TTB connection, it should have been live already ...... it could be 2 weeks, or 2 months.

I was told ..... "watch this space".

Why don't you just tell us the ISP?

I didn't name the ISP as they haven't made a general announcement about new packages .

Doing so would likely lead to them being inundated with calls/emails wanting package details and time frames they can't yet give.

Thanks for that...how does that work for child exchanges...is only one cable required at the head end exchange...or one cable per child exchange.

Child exchanges' cabinets terminate on the Openreach kit just like home exchange cabinets do. The GEA links go from that to the relevant provider's backhaul.

Having got to this point, can anyone give any further information on the TT fibre wholesale. I see that some are offering TT fibre connection. Do various ISP's have different protocols ( for the want of a better word) and does transferring a LLU line to another ISP mean that a cease has to be made by the losing ISP. I was under the impression it could just be moved as with a BT connection.

All migrations are now Gaining Provider Led (GPL). The losing provider is not involved, though you may need to comply with their notice period and minimum term T & Cs.

Are you considering XL Line or XL Biz Line? Have three weeks to dump Sky, what with the current problems I may jump this week. My only issue is having to go back to ADSL for two weeks before going back up to fibre so may just order a new line.

Spoken to Adam and Sam at Pulse8 and it all seems good to me.

Pluses and minuses, only 1 static IP, direct with TTB you get 4 but are locked into a 24 month contract

I did find "stuff" when I suddenly thought of direct TT Business that came up with them occasionally throwing a hissy and getting rid of non-business users on business products.

Odd, but it's their network.
