FIbre service slower than existing BB??

I am linked to cabinet 1 of WNRST exchange. This exchange was upgraded to fibre last year but not my cabinet. Over the summer a new cabinet was installed around 500metres away from the existing one and this was wired up to the mains a few weeks ago. This week my cabinet is now accepting orders
My joy was short lived when PLusnet told me I could only get 4Mbps on a fibre service, which is slower than my current 5Mbps.
Sky tell me I should expect 40Mbps on the line but I am sceptical this is sales talk.
I am baffled why a fibre service would be so slow and would like to get your views on this paradox?

The paradox is possible depending on your relative distances to the actual cabinet you are serviced by.

What exactly (i.e. copy/paste FTTC speed estimates) does the checker below say for your telephone number

I see from this that FTTP is also an option.

Either thats a typo or its another cabinet entirely.
FTTP on demand costs several thousand pounds to install as its a bespoke build.

Based on those estimates you are more likely to be around 2km away from your cabinet. The checker can be wrong occasionally with estimates, so which cabinet and exchange does it say and if not willing to share publically PM or email me the postcode for your house.

Sky was just giving marketing spiel, there online checker should have shown something between 2 and 7.3 Mbps.

You don't have FTTP available, that would show up as a WBC FTTP line. The fibre on demand as someone else said is a different product with bespoke build costs and monthly pricing and is NOT available for ordering from BT Wholesale for providers anyway.

It used to say cabinet 1 which is and old style cabinetaround 1.5km away.
This new fibre cabinet is around 0.5km away

Those speeds don't sounds like a cab 500m away. Mine is about that distance and I get about 50/8 on FTTC. Are you sure you're not still on cab 1?

the bt wholesale site says its cabinet 10 now

And cabinet 1 is not live.

Have sent in an enquiry based on what I believe is happening, but looks like a checker mistake that needs correcting to me.
